The End of Oak Street is better than I expected.

I thought it would be just a dumb, fun movie, but the technical aspects made me respect it. It’s still a dumb, fun movie, though LOL.

The camerawork is amazing! I love how they create suspense with visuals and sound. It’s subtle yet engaging throughout the movie. This alone makes the film worth watching, imo.

Anne Hathaway carried the film so hard, I felt like she either overdid it a bit or got a different memo somehow. Everyone else seems like they’re acting in a dumb, fun movie, while she performs like she’s going for acting nominations. LMAO. Seriously, though, she’s fantastic in this.

However, the movie still has the same tropes: characters are dumber than rocks and can’t think straight for more than a few seconds. So, you have to meet them at their level by shutting your brain off just like they do to enjoy the story.

You can definitely feel that they just wanted to make a dinosaur movie and were too lazy to set up a proper explanation for how the mechanism in the story actually works.

That’s okay, though, as I didn’t expect much anyway (though the ending gets very dark and morally questionable if you really think about it). What I truly hoped for were some good dinosaur sequences, and this movie did not disappoint! This is a better dinosaur movie than all the recent Jurassic World films combined! I can’t help but imagine how good those movies could have been if they’d had a crew that cared about crafting dinosaur portrayals the way this one did.

Overall, if you like dinosaurs, you’ll enjoy this. It’s highly entertaining, provided you don’t mind the lack of logic in both plot and character development. I only wish they had focused more on the dynamics within the suburban neighborhood rather than solely on one family.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, 2026 - ★★★★

I really appreciate the simplicity of Spider-Man Brand New Day. It's so simple, yet effective. It truly feels like a Spider-Man and Peter Parker story, with Tom Holland fully embodying the role in this film. I used to feel like he hadn't quite grasped the character (but parts of it was due to previous movies’ scripts), but here he finally perfected it. The film carries all the heart of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, hitting the usual themes of responsibility and sacrifice, but with a newfound maturity.

The action scenes and camerawork are amazing! I grinned through scene after scene, thinking to myself, "God, this is cool!" The world-building is also great, it feels so lived in.

I'm quite surprised by how well they balance all these characters. I initially thought it'd be a mess, but each character gets their own time to shine, and boy, do they shine! I felt connected to nearly every character almost instantly, sometimes even more so than with an entire storyline in some other movies (not naming names here, lol).

Some people might feel like the movie tries too hard to set up future MCU movies, but I don't think so. I think it does a great job introducing characters without feeling too forced, and each one serves the story -- furthering Peter Parker's growth as well as their own.

I really like the script. It's an emotional drama with grounded and mature characters. The only downside is the pacing: sometimes it lingers too long, and sometimes it feels a bit rushed. At times, it kind of feels like a few episodes got cobbled into one movie, but it still works as a film, so I don't mind it much.

Lots of emotional impact, lots of memorable scenes, and above all, lots of heart. So what's not to like? I highly recommend watching this one. It might not be one of the best movies out there, but it sure is a Spider-Man movie through and through. I might even say that it’s one of the best Spider-Man movies, though not quite on par with Spider-Verse movies.

Supergirl, 2026 - ★★★½

Supergirl is fun and entertaining, and it really helps you understand the essence of who Kara is (much better than Clark in Superman, imo).

However, if this is the film released after James Gunn explicitly stated he would greenlight only strong scripts, then I worry about the future of this DC universe, because the film's biggest weakness is its story.

The script is not outright bad. I do enjoy the Krypton and Superman storylines, but much of the story progression feels either predictable or frustrating. Nearly half of the runtime comes across as pointless or underwhelming, driven by a plot filled with one convenient device after another.

Their storytelling skills are so lacking they couldn't come up with anything else to create stakes but to nerf the main characters. Once is fine, but doing this repeatedly feels like a cheap joke to annoy the audience. As a result, about 80% of the movie shows Kara at her worst—not just physically, but mentally and even in terms of her personality.

Ruthye, the catalyst of the story, didn’t receive any better treatment. She's a kid, sure, but she's a kid with a mission. The least the film could do is show her potential to grow into someone capable. Instead, she's reduced to a helpless child, becoming competent only when the plot demands it (which happens just once).

In Superman, we had one of the most memorable villains of all time: Lex Luthor. In Supergirl, however, we get someone who would barely pass as a villain's sidekick in other films. What a downgrade. Not only is the villain weaker, but Supergirl herself is also diminished to the point where she doesn't feel as heroic as Superman. It feels as though the filmmakers were afraid she might overshadow Superman if portrayed on equal footing, so they chose to weaken both her and the villain in this movie.

I could forgive a D-tier villain for the sake of simplicity, allowing more focus on the main characters. However, I cannot overlook plot-irrelevant characters like Lobo, who keeps stealing the spotlight throughout the story.

Lobo is the most entertaining character in this, but what purpose does he actually serve? He exists purely as fan service and as a plot device that UNDERMINE the main character's development. It feels like the filmmakers favor him over Supergirl and were eager to introduce him here because they doubt he could carry his own film. I found myself rolling my eyes every time he appeared and couldn't help but imagine how much stronger the film would be if he were removed, with that time instead spent developing the relationship dynamics and growth of our two main characters.

As a result, rather than focusing on the comradeship between two people—and how shared trauma strengthens their bond while allowing them to reflect on their own lives—the film repeatedly undermines both character growth and relationship development. Their progress is stalled until the very last moments, which feels like a poor and frustrating storytelling choice.

I'm still baffled as to why anyone would choose to introduce the universe's second hero this way, but it’s still a fun and occasionally moving story. I enjoyed the visuals and music in certain scenes, though overall they are not particularly memorable.

All in all, if you're curious about Supergirl, I would still recommend giving it a watch. I like the characterization of this version of Supergirl and am hopeful about how her portrayal will develop going forward. And of course, who wouldn't want to see more of Krypto, the rebelliously adorable dog?

I had an absolute blast watching this, so much so that I felt a bit guilty about how hard I laughed at the gruesome and horrible deeds these people did. The movie is just too great at making terrible things look hilarious! LMAO

It started off slowly, allowing the reality of her miserable life to sink into our minds, providing justification for the story. Then we are gradually introduced to the toxic, codependent relationship, giving us a glimpse of how far these two can go to hurt one another until everything goes haywire. And finally, we are blessed with an incredibly satisfying final act!

I love how they tiptoe between twisted romance and comedic horror tropes. These two make the best love-hate dynamic duo! Such an incredible performance! It’s the kind of movie that demands strong comedic physicality, and they committed to their roles so fully that I don’t think I can see them without recalling their performances in this anymore.

This movie is worth watching for the performances alone, IMO, but everything else also elevates the entertainment to another level.

If you’re intrigued by the premise in the trailers, please head to your nearest cinema now! It absolutely delivers above and beyond the premise! I mean, everything about this movie is so over the top, you might feel disappointed by how utterly normal your real life looks in comparison. LOL.

The Housemaid, 2025 - ★★★★

I love a crazy story about crazy people! I went in blind, letting the narrative unfold before my eyes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I can't believe how well-executed this movie was, it nailed the vibe from start to finish. It's not easy to make ordinary lives feel ominous while characters shrug it off repeatedly as if it's nothing, but they pulled it off so well that it kept me on the edge of my seat—followed by deep sighs of relief multiple times—until the story shifted gears and went full throttle into absolute madness!

I enjoyed it so much that I even listened to the audiobook version of the story right after. To my surprise, I agreed with most of the changes made in the adaptation. They really knew how to amp up the adrenaline rush for the film format.

My only complaint about the film is how underdeveloped Nina's story was. If they had followed the book's pace and narrative, it would have had much more depth and nuance. This movie had the potential to convey something significant, but sadly, they left much of the substance on the table. So, instead of a potentially great film, we got a campy, thrilling wild ride that leaves you with an exhilarating aftertaste you can't help but crave for more.

Still, I knew this movie was a huge success when my mom asked if it had received any award nominations! Unfortunately, I had to tell her, "No, Mom," and watched the disappointment in her eyes LOL. It captivated her from start to finish, and she left the cinema with a sparkle in her eyes, something most movies she's seen haven't managed to achieve. My mom doesn't usually care about movie awards, but the fact that she loved this film enough to ask is high praise in itself.

People love to talk badly about these types of movies, but it's precisely films like this that thoroughly entertain with their playful suspense and huge, crazy payoffs.

Life doesn't always have to be taken so seriously to be meaningful—sometimes a wild, silly adventure can also make it worthwhile. The same applies to movies, and this one is such a delightfully satisfying wild ride I can’t wait for the next one.

Bugonia, 2025 - ★★★★½

This is one of the funniest and wittiest films I've seen recently.

Who would have thought that a story about a beekeeper kidnapping a successful CEO because he believes she's an alien would make me question reality so intensely my brain might short-circuit? Yet that's Bugonia—with a fantastic, sharp, witty, unhinged, and absolutely hilarious screenplay.

I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie, especially since I haven't liked any of Lanthimos's films besides The Favourite. It seems he has finally struck the perfect balance of absurdity—rooted fully in the story rather than absurdity for its own sake. The pacing and comedic timing here are wonderful, a clear improvement compared to what I've seen in his previous works. The film creates a claustrophobic vibe, like a ticking bomb ready to explode or be casually laughed off. The production, cinematography, and musical score amplify this tension and atmosphere blending bleakness and absurd humor in such a masterful way.

I really appreciate how the film blends dark comedy and absurd satire with an insightful character study. Layered with social commentary and critique, the story becomes both entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. The original screenplay from Save the Green Planet! laid its foundation, but from what I've gathered, this remake shifts the story's dynamics to heighten absurdity and satire through character interactions. This sharp, witty, and absurd adaptation seems to be the perfect fit for Lanthimos's style

The film deeply explores humanity's darker traits—self-destruction, greed, classism, and social neglect—as drivers of societal collapse in a bleak yet absurd way. The story blurs moral lines between victims and perpetrators, and between reality and paranoia through ambiguous conspiracy narratives. This makes both the characters and us the audience mistrust ourselves and each other, with all the misinformation and absurdity of realities. You can't help but question what's the truth and what isn't throughout the whole film.

Who can be absolutely sure about the right balance between self-doubt and self-belief—for oneself and others? When is it appropriate to let others change your mind and let go of certain beliefs, and when should you stand firm regardless? How much are you willing to bend your truth, and how much are you willing to challenge or break others'?

I absolutely love how this story keeps us second-guessing ourselves throughout the entire movie and even after the credits roll. I enjoy films that challenge not only your analytical thinking but also your psychological and philosophical perspectives like this one. I suspect a second viewing would deepen the experience even more.

None of this would be possible without the superb performances from the entire cast. Each character's dynamics are compelling, full of nuance and depth, conveyed through dialogue, body language, and even the smallest micro-expressions. Every detail reveals their psyche, emotions, and thoughts. The power struggles, vulnerability, and self-doubt are all laid bare for us to witness.

I truly hope Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons get Best Actress and Best Actor nominations. (I realized now that Jesse Plemons got snubbed so hard!) They were phenomenal! Hands down, one of the most memorable standoff scenes I've ever seen, they challenge each other's ideologies, perceptions of reality, morality, and even sanity through intense mind games right up to the very end. It's simultaneously nerve-wracking, intense, and downright hilarious how fully they commit. Absolutely marvelous!

That said, I'm sure that this movie won't be everyone's cup of tea because of its weirdness, violence, and dialogue-heavy style. You'll likely feel an unsettling ambiguity throughout and face mind-boggling final scenes that might leave you scratching your head in disbelief (which in my opinion fits the theme perfectly). So, I don't blame anyone for disagreeing about how brilliant this film is.

For me, this is one of the most memorable films watched this past few years. Until now, The Favourite was the only Lanthimos film I loved, but I'm happy to add Bugonia to my favorites.

Greenland 2: Migration, 2026 - ★★★

This movie could easily have been titled “Greenland: One Disaster After Another.”

To begin with, I don’t believe Greenland needed a sequel, but the crew clearly aimed to spread hope during these challenging and seemingly hopeless times. Thus, the story shifts from the fear and desperation of the disaster in the original film to a radical optimism, despite all the obstacles thrown their way.

I must admit I enjoyed this movie more than I expected (though my expectations were pretty low, lol). It still excels at building emotional tension and making us root for the characters. As much as I like Gerard Butler, I believe Morena Baccarin is the true star of the film, carrying the movie as the emotional anchor of the story. I wouldn’t have enjoyed this movie as much without her amazing performance.

The disaster and action scenes are still as nerve-wracking, with stakes that feel genuinely high at the moment. Unfortunately, it felt like the filmmakers had an ending in mind to convey their message but lacked the depth to guide us there meaningfully. As a result, most of the transitions in the characters’ journey rely on luck and convenience rather than strong storytelling. You’ll need to suspend disbelief while watching this film, or you might roll your eyes so much you’ll need to see a doctor. LMAO.

Still, I quite enjoyed this sequel and its ending. While not necessary, it’s a decent addition if you’re interested in following the characters’ journey rather than purely expecting another nonstop-action-packed disaster film. Let’s just hope they don’t attempt to make another sequel after this, lol.

Anaconda, 2025 - ★★★

I enjoyed this delightfully dumb story and how the group of friends reconnects, rekindling their youthful spirit by making a reimagined Anaconda film.

The cast brings their own charm and chemistry, making it impossible not to root for them despite their clear foolishness. LOL

The jokes are silly and the plot wildly predictable, yet it kept me chuckling throughout with a few genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

Of course, I wish the script had raised the stakes and added some character development, much like how the anaconda dramatically elevates the story's tension.

Still, I had a great time being silly on Christmas Day, and hearing my mom laugh without a care in the world as these characters run around like lunatics was pure joy. And sometimes, truthfully, that's all a movie needs to be.

Avatar: Fire and Ash, 2025 - ★★★★

Avatar: Fire and Ash remains a must-see for its immersive visual spectacle, much like the prior films but now on a grander scale with a slightly darker tone.

Unfortunately, James Cameron seems to have slowly run out of stories to tell. It tackles the same themes—ecological concerns, family drama, extractive capitalism, and colonialism—while repeating the same structure, recycling familiar tropes, and building emotions through dialogue and situations in nearly the same ways.

This time, the Sully family must process grief amid Pandora's escalating war. We also meet the Ash People, who symbolize the overwhelming grief from war's fiery aftermath.

I don't mind simple storytelling or even rehashing the same tales in a slightly different setting. But I can't help feeling disappointed by how badly they underutilized the Ash People. We could have deeply explored their cultural differences, worldviews, relationships with others, and the moral ambiguities they entail. Instead, they became mere plot devices, lacking fully developed depth and nuance. One might say the movie exploits them for "exotic" spectacle, much like the humans in the story exploit them as resources. This mistreatment still leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

That said, I truly love Pandora, the Na'vi, and their rich culture, and I can never get bored of their awe-inspiring world, where people live for love instead of hatred.

The film still has a big heart and certainly hits all the emotional highs and lows, much like the previous ones. I certainly root for the characters and against the humans. It's one of the few movies where we can confidently say "humans suck" without feeling awkward or guilty.

All in all, if you're seeking jaw-dropping visuals and technical wizardry, this is a must-see in theaters. You won't regret immersing yourself among the Na'vi in Pandora's world for three hours—it's well worth the ticket price for the Wind Traders scenes alone, imo. Just don't expect much depth or innovative storytelling, and you'll have a great time. The ending, though a bit rushed, feels somewhat satisfying, and the story could potentially wrap up here without further installments.

This is not a movie.

In fact, it's not even an animated series with multiple episodes stuffed into a movie format.

This is almost an hour-long highlight reel with a brief introduction to the next season. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

There's no narrative, just cool visual scenes stitched together without emotional weights. They don't even try to make the story coherent, just slapping in cool dialogue here and there before abruptly cutting to another scene or setting, with no regard for a cohesive plot or even the characters.

I was cracking up at how ridiculous it is that they don't even bother to explain anything whatsoever. I mean, who on earth thinks people could read the whole rules of the game in that split second! They just skip anything that remotely builds the narrative so they can show off their cool visuals and animation skills. They could have just picked some great scenes and let the audience relive it, then utilizing flashbacks for context. But nope, they even trimmed down crucial fight scenes to speed run the entire arc. What a terrible pacing.

What's even worse is how they introduce a new arc and end it right after things BARELY start getting interesting. So, there's maybe one decent storyline that lasts less than 10 minutes in the entire 88-minute runtime.

This is purely a cheap attempt to hype up fans by letting them see great visuals on a big screen—and that's it.

I'm so glad I watched this with a monthly pass; otherwise, I'd be so upset at paying extra fees for whatever this is.

That said, the visuals are indeed amazing, with a unique artistic flair that helped cool my head a bit leaving the cinema. But now I know I'd never bother watching any of these in cinemas again, since they don't make them even remotely passable as movies in the first place. I'm not a picky person, but this is too disrespectful to warrant a generous second chance.

I truly love how innovative visual storytelling and filmmaking techniques enhance the atmosphere of No Other Choice.

The creative and immersive sound design made me feel as if I were alongside the protagonist, experiencing something new—whether good or bad—for the very first time. The music felt like listening to a great album, and the cinematography operates on an entirely different level with its striking compositions and creative editing.

This movie is undoubtedly at the top of its game in every scene and transition, each masterfully crafted. The blend of technical prowess and satirical, black comedy elements enhances the experience further, making the film feels rich with depth and complexity throughout.

It skillfully combines dark humor, thriller elements, vulnerability, and a menacing tone through both filmmaking and performances, resulting in something truly remarkable.

I admire how the film balances laughter and discomfort to reinforce social critique, especially in its commentary on corporate cruelty and the ruthlessness of the modern job market through a dark comedy lens. It uses humor and exaggeration to expose the absurdity of the “failing forward” concept, while clearly highlighting the tragedy of economic hardship that leads to social alienation and strained relationships, both societally and individually. This struggle blurs the lines between ethical and moral codes, survival instincts, and even identity crises.

The film makes me feel that reality isn’t far from its depiction, where we often find ourselves unsure whether to laugh or cry about the shitty situations we face.

We either adapt to new environments or die trying by clinging to our comfort zones. Is this truly a loss of identity, or simply doing what it takes to fight for what we believe is right for us? Is our current lifestyle worth keeping, or would it be better to transform into something entirely different? These are the kinds of questions the film explores thoroughly, prompting me to reflect on both the characters and myself throughout.

However, as much as I appreciate the concept and the film’s craftsmanship, I felt the pacing was too slow and dragged, especially in the first act, due to excessive indulgence in stylistic flair. This disrupted the narrative rhythm and story progression. Some humor and dialogue fell flat, leaving me unsettled and craving either greater depth or, at times, restraint.

Furthermore, the family member characters are hugely underutilized. There was great potential to expand the story and enrich the social critique from each family member's perspective. I would have preferred tighter storytelling with greater focus on elaborating the final act to fully convey its impact on the characters' lives. That said, I still appreciate the hollow ending, as it effectively reflects the characters’ emotional aftermath.

Despite these minor issues, I don’t mind it that much if it means witnessing a masterclass in filmmaking like this. It’s the kind of movie you must see in a theatre for the full effect. You won’t regret it!

Zootopia 2, 2025 - ★★★★

Zootopia 2 is undoubtedly one of the most lovely, charming, and adorable movies.

It's been nine years since the first Zootopia movie, yet I can immediately reconnect with this iconic duo—Judy and Nick—and their dynamic as if it were just a year ago. That's a testament to how well these characters were developed, and this sequel builds on that foundation beautifully, with more depth and growth. In this sequel, Judy and Nick must learn how to be good partners, overcoming their differences and learning to fully understand and even embrace each other's flaws and all.

Whoever design the world-building design for this franchise deserves a raise. The attention to characterizations, interactions, down to the tiniest details of the world, and all the clever wordplay and puns draws us into a world that's immersive, memorable, and so full of life.

I love how they blend political undertones for social commentary and criticism on discrimination, systemic injustice, and elitism into this cute and funny family-friendly movie like this. Despite the underlying harsh realities of the world, the heart of the film lies in its message of reconciliation through mutual respect and understanding. This makes the film fun, clever, and thoughtful at the same time.

I’m not sure how this movie would really land on kids, though. Some jokes or conversations require a bit of life experience to grasp the underlying meanings. Additionally, all those tiny details, whether visual or verbal, that make the film so brilliant, may go over most people’s heads without full focus. To fully appreciate a somewhat kid-friendly movie like Zootopia 2, viewers surprisingly need to engage their wit and attention in every moment of the film.

For me, however, this movie is pure delight, filled with clever details that make every second worth watching. I chuckled, cracked up, and sometimes even feel in awe with all those little moments throughout the film.

Some might say they focused more on these aspects than on the storyline itself, but I don’t mind it as much because, even though it lacks depth, it still gets the point across. Besides, you can find great stories anywhere, but you can never recreate the experience of the Zootopia world again (without plagiarism lawsuits, of course! LOL).

The Running Man, 2025 - ★★★½

I enjoyed the fast-paced, high-energy vibe this movie delivers, and I especially loved the first act. The performances were great. The movie certainly brings an intense, adrenaline-pumping energy that keeps you engaged throughout the film.

I genuinely wanted to love this movie; however, the screenplay is such a letdown that the more I reflect on it after the credits roll, the less I like the film.

Firstly, the premise of The Running Man show is simply ridiculous, even within the film’s context. How could there possibly be enough content to fill a TV time slot for at least two weeks (and they aimed for 30 days! WTH) with only three competitors! Especially when they’re just running and hiding? I was so dumbfounded about this concept. The show’s structure lacks a clear format to generate enough content to sustain ratings in their world, let alone supporting this movie’s storyline. If there had been stages or challenges for the runners to tackle, it might have provided some real meat to feed us the audience.

With the lackluster premise of the show within the movie, the protagonist’s journey feels aimless, merely drifting along with coincidental events until the film concludes. I’d even say that the people he met along the way has better stories worth telling than him.

Another issue is the film’s failure to blend drama and action-comedy into a cohesive narrative. They didn’t dig deep enough to make the dramatic storylines sink, but also didn’t let us have the long entertaining sequences that’d truly put us at the edge of our seats. As a result, the film constantly shifts back and forth between these two conflicting tones. I have to wonder how much better the film would be if only they picked only one lane and stick with it.

Lastly, the film doesn’t fully commit to its final scenes. They feel rushed, as if the creators had no clear idea how to land the story (pun intended), so they had to slap something to deliver the intended message.

Despite its flaws, I still had fun watching The Running Man and still recommend the film when you just want to have fun.

Wicked: For Good, 2025 - ★★★★

To begin, I’ve never read the novel or seen any Wicked musicals. My only familiarity with the story comes from the image of Dorothy and her three unusual companions in Oz. I was also unfamiliar with any songs from the second part before watching it. Therefore, this review comes from a fresh perspective, free of prior bias, except for the experience of the first movie, of course.

That being said, I expected Wicked: For Good to focus on Elphaba bringing down The Wizard, perhaps with secret allies like Glinda and Fiyero, but nope. In fact, Wicked: For Good seems to center more on Glinda's story than Elphaba's. Glinda is the true highlight, especially in her performance of The Girl in the Bubble—a song I hope will receive a Best Song nomination this year. Her character arc is deeply satisfying to witness, layered with depth and nuance.

I appreciate how the movie explores the nuances of what defines good and wicked, revealing how everyone grapples with choices and consequences shaped by personal motives and beliefs. By the end, my perception of the phrase "For Good" evolved, taking on a deeper, more layered significance.

I genuinely enjoyed the cast and their performances; they fully embodied their roles, allowing me to connect with each character. Unfortunately, Michelle Yeoh stood out as the weakest link, underperforming even more than in the first movie. It felt as if she was forced into the role, her heart just wasn't in it.

Although I appreciate the core message and support the characters' charm, several aspects feel like a step down from the first film. The pacing, for one, is awkward, and the narrative feels all over the place. They tried to cram in so many storylines without a clear, cohesive thread to tie them together. Despite the large cast and the film's length, there are surprisingly few heartfelt conversations that resolve conflicts. Most characters' development is barely explored, leaving many storylines open-ended and delivering only a hollow promise of closure. Additionally, the social and political themes hinted at early in the film lack depth or any substance. Animals exist merely to prop our protagonists up, and make the bad guys look bad, and that's about it.

Secondly, the musical numbers feel somewhat lackluster, lacking energy and novelty. Many seemed lifeless most of the time, and I can't quite pinpoint exactly why they seemed that way compared to the first movie. Perhaps it's the cinematography, editing, songs, choreography, performances, lighting, color grading, or a mix of these elements. They just simply didn't evoke much of emotional resonance that Wicked Part 1 delivered. It's a bit of a shame, as the musical numbers were what I anticipated most.

Finally, while I understand shifting the focus away from Dorothy since this story isn't about her, it's frustrating how the film tiptoes around scenes showing her figure but never her face. This unnecessary mystery builds false expectations of narrative foreshadowing. I wish they’d just shown her face once and moved on, instead of distracting me with constant anticipation. Moreover, Dorothy's three companions—who could have enriched Elphaba's arc—are glossed over and underused. Frankly, these four could have been left out entirely without affecting the narrative, as they felt included merely for the sake of it.

Overall, while Wicked For Good may not match the first movie's caliber, I thoroughly enjoyed its world-building, excellent production values, and costumes, as well as the journeys of its remarkable characters and charming musical numbers. It may not offer a fully satisfying conclusion, but I'm glad to see this story told with such quality and passion.

P.S. Maybe I'm heartless, but Elphaba's sister comes across as so entitled that I just don't care for her. Madame Morrible might be truly evil, but to me, Nessa is the real witch of the story for hiding her wickedness behind those sad puppy eyes.

If you’re interested in watching the third installment of Now You See Me, you probably know what to expect, and it certainly delivers.

The key to enjoying this franchise is to simply go with the flow, letting the filmmakers mesmerized you with fascinating tricks until we arrive at the inevitable epic showdown. It’s such a fun journey that I don’t mind switching off my brain (almost entirely! lol) and letting them lead the way.

This movie still offers spectacular illusions, both visually and mentally. Now, with an expanded cast that adds fresh dynamics! I like how each member gets their time to shine, bringing their own unique skills and charm, especially with the battles between the old and new generations.

The major drawback of the movie, IMO, is the pacing due to the need to introduce and reintroduce every character, while also having to follow the major storylines. Also, it’s hard to build up character arcs with this much character, and at times, it felt like everyone was just following the movie’s beats.

Despite this, the film’s visual flair and impressive showmanship shine through. I believe that fans of the first two movies will likely find this installment an enjoyable continuation of this magical adventure.

I truly appreciate the simplicity of the concept, which also delivers a complex and nuanced story focusing on life, survival, and human perspectives on living and dying.

The Long Walk is the kind of movie that allows us, the viewers, to think and feel alongside the characters. It never lets us look away from the harsh realities they face, both physical and mental challenges we could never have imagined until forced to confront them in the film.

It’s emotionally powerful, capturing not only the despair these characters endure but also the hope, kindness, and meaningful aspects of humanity that shine through even in the darkest, most hopeless moments. Every moment feels significant and deeply moving.

Knowing that the story is an allegory for the Vietnam War highlights how young men were sent to die (unknowingly) for an unjust cause, adding an even more meaningful perspective to the film.

The story portrays the difficulty of maintaining humanity within cruel, violent circumstances. It shows how the system not only fails these frightened young men—trapped by a broken society and a rigged structure—but also brutally breaks them down until no shred of humanity remains.

The story shed lights on the challenge of preserving humanity in a cruel, violent system. Yet, it’s in the darkest nights that even the tiniest star can shine, almost blinding us with its brightness, just as the smallest acts of kindness and camaraderie feel like revelations during the darkest days of their lives.

This movie reflects on life and how we choose to live. We all must die; it’s only a matter of when. Each of us holds different perspectives on life, the will to live, and the reasons that keep us going. Ultimately, we must each answer this question for ourselves: How can we make this fleeting life worth living and keep on walking?

Overall, I love this film and highly recommend it. The only part I’m not sure about is the ending. While I understand the decision thematically, I still feel the character wouldn’t have made that choice, especially after hearing the final words. Nevertheless, the exceptional performance of the cast more than makes up for this and other minor flaws. I have a strong feeling that most of them will achieve great success in their careers in the future.

The Rock truly can act. It's been forever since I last saw The Rock take on even a remotely dramatic role, and his performance is exceptional. However, I feel the film is too artistic and distant for the story it presents. Rather than immersing us in the characters, the film maintains a distance, preventing a prolonged engagement with the raw and emotional aspects of these individuals.

The cinematographic choices and the editing were occasionally strange but brilliant at other times, which makes the pacing a bit jarring and clunky. There were mostly just fragments of great scenes, rather than a single cohesive narrative. However, the scenes involving the couple were always excellent.

I still appreciate the movie for its depiction of the brutality of MMA sports in its early days and the outstanding performances throughout. The film really captures the emotional struggles of these individuals. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow us to truly linger and grow with these people, opting instead for a more stylistic approach, which is a shame. Nonetheless, I still really like the movie.

The story is bad. Nothing makes sense.
And yet, it’s the kind of film, that if you’re interested, I encourage watching in theaters.

The experience is incredibly cool with outstanding music and visuals. I absolutely love how they utilize the deep bass; feeling the vibrations resonating through my skull was truly a blessing. I haven’t had such an immersive music experience in theaters for quite some time. The visuals are also impressive. I love how the scenes are edited with precise timing to the beat, synchronized with the music. It’s so satisfying when the kicks and punches land in sync with the beat.

The acting is mostly average, it works, but there’s nothing particularly outstanding in that department. Surprisingly, Jared Leto’s performance fits well within this context; his empty expression perfectly suits the role of an AI! Evan Peter is the only standout, portraying a genius with such a punchable personality.

Overall, if you approach “Tron: Ares” as an extended music video with a futuristic fantasy vibe (calling it sci-fi would be a stretch here!), then you’ll have a good time.

It’s a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed this movie, and don’t mind the nonsensical plot as much as I thought I would. When you let go of expectations and take your brains off, this movie is just a fun time with a cool aesthetic.

And…for anyone curious, especially those put off by Jared Leto and “Morbius”, I’m happy to report that “Tron: Ares” is a better film… albeit by a slight margin. LMAO

Austin Butler is hot, alright, and if that doesn't seal the deal for you, hear me out: he's playing, and talking to a cat throughout the film. Honestly, who cares about the plot after discovering this perfect duo? LMAO

In all seriousness, though, I didn't like the direction this movie took. It struggles to decide between being dark and comedic, rather than effectively blending crime comedy with a gritty edge. The attempt to anchor the narrative with a tragic backstory for comedic punchlines and a redemption arc, while also letting Matt Smith dressed and behaving like kid cartoon characters in the same film, just didn't match well with me.

The push and pull between seriousness and absurdity seems to undercut and undermine each other's impact. Many scenes fail to heighten the tension, missing emotional beats, whether they are comedic or dramatic. In my opinion, they should have gone the crazier route instead of toning down the whole thing. They could have gone bonkers and more chaotic with this kind of plot, but it ended up feeling rather tame to me. The music was lackluster most of the time. Awkward silences dampened what should have been a crazy ride.

Despite this, Caught Stealing is highly entertaining, and I really liked its setting and vibe. The end credits, in particular, absolutely rocked. I wish that punk and chaotic energy had been present throughout the film itself, rather than just at the end. And as I mentioned, Austin Butler and the cat duo is reason enough to watch it. The combination of hot and adorable? Who could have resisted that!!?

This approach pulls us out of reality, allowing us to view the issues from a different perspective. I also like how the film offers two distinct conclusions for these stories: one where persistent reminders lead to eventual remembrance (with spectacular comeback!), and another where, despite all efforts, and one is slowly and completely forgotten.

You might also find that, though _A Useful Ghost _ may not be about romance, it’s still about love after all. For love gives us reasons to fight, and without love, we wouldn’t struggle or resist. Between someone perfect on paper who never quite makes you feel truly at ease, and a mess of a person who always feels like home, the film asks: Who and how do you choose?

The Materialists invites us to reflect on how we seek and perceive love and life partners. It also challenges us to examine whether our desires align with our values, and if our actions will ultimately lead to a fulfilling life.

I appreciate the approach of telling the story through the perspective of a matchmaker, someone you'd expect to understand love and life partnership better than anyone else. And yet…

Sadly, I'm surprised by how underdeveloped the story is compared to the director's debut film, Past Lives. It feels like this movie needed a few more drafts to refine the narrative and deeply explore its themes.

The film could have drawn a clearer contrast between seeking love and seeking qualities in a partner, with deeper exploration into the dilemma that arises when the essence of love is overshadowed by materialism and when love is not enough to overcome the lifestyle differences. Because of this, the central message about how materialism clouds our values and hinders our pursuit of love in this movie doesn't drive the point home to me.

In my view, matchmaking services could have served as the true centerpiece of the story, using the main characters to illustrate this concept, rather than approaching it the other way around as the movie does. This shift could have strengthened the story theme more.

Additionally, it's unfortunate that the movie invites us to think more than feel the emotional connection, often doing the opposite of the "Show, Don't Tell" principle. This leaves the film feeling distant rather than immersive, making it more like watching a performance, and lacking the intimate feel from situational sensations typical of a romance film. I'm not sure it works, at least not for me, though I still like the movie enough.

The film conveys the protagonist's shifting resolution, but lacks clarity about what drives these changes in both character and circumstance. There are no significant driving forces building within the story that integrated with its themes and storylines. The story misses natural, rising tension or situational revelations to drive these realizations home.

Why the change of heart? Why choose this over the other, expecting this time to be different, even better?

Instead, pivotal moments happen through dialogue that, while beautifully written, feels unearned within the narrative's flow.

It’s especially baffling because her debut film, Past Lives, had a remarkable structure with three timelines that clearly revealed the characters’ growth and realizations. In this movie, the story seem to lack a sense of flowing progression.

On the upside, I love the film’s visuals and framing—these, alongside strong performances, largely carry the story. Though the three main characters feel underdeveloped, each needing more convincing emotional evolution, the actors are all beautiful people and well-suited for a romance movie.

The ending is quite great but doesn’t grab me by the hand and pull my heart into the experience of love the way Past Lives did. I also enjoyed the mini-interviews scattered throughout, which cleverly explore what people seek in partners and reinforce the theme of materialistic relationships.

What truly stands out for me is the closing scene during the credits: where characters signing their marriage licenses in a room filled with couples waiting their turn. This simple yet wholesome moment beautifully captures the essence of seeking a life partner—being in a room full of love, committing to love one another for the rest of their lives. Watching that scene filled my heart so much, I wish the entire movie could have made me feel the same way.

It’s a bit of a shame that The Materialists missed the mark for me, since I love Past Lives so much, it becomes one of my all-time favorites. This film feels like a step down, and I can’t help but sense wasted potential throughout the story. This movie is surprisingly better than I expected. Initially, I just hoped to see Jackie Chan's fighting scenes, those awesome and creative sequences he’s known for. And of course, the fight scenes and action choreography are as impressive as always in a Jackie Chan film. Moreover, all these characters are so cool and badass, which makes the film even more enjoyable. It's criminal how cool they are, even more so than their actual crimes in the story! I found myself forgetting some of them are actual criminals in the story, and reacting more like a fan watching their favorite idols.

What really surprised me was how much I got drawn into the storylines. Watching the "old dogs" utilize new tricks while teaching the "new dogs" the old ones was definitely a highlight, making it fun and engaging throughout. The cat-and-mouse chase kept me hooked, with clever tactics and the way they outwit each other, creating a tense and satisfying suspense that I haven't seen done this well in a while. It certainly brought out the dark and gritty vibe that you wouldn’t normally find in typical action-comedy style from Jackie Chan.

My favorite part was definitely the opening sequence. It blew me away with its fast pace, yet packed with creativity. Honestly, that opening alone made the whole movie worth it for me. It's a shame the film didn't include more heist scenes like that afterward, as those moments were the absolute best.

Still, the chosen storylines are compelling, and the twists added refreshing layers to the plot. That said, the end credits scene felt a bit too absurd, I still can't believe they went in that direction! LOL

Overall, The Shadow's Edge is such a goddamn entertaining movie with surprisingly strong and compelling storylines that you can't help but enjoy. So if you're a fan of Jackie Chan, just go watch it. It’s so good to see him in a story-driven movie like this!

All of this truly showcases how far the animation industry has come.

It's no surprise that Demon Slayer has achieved such monumental success with this animation team behind it—they truly brought their A-game for this story.

That said, ironically, the film's most significant flaw is its attempt to stay true to the source material. The story doesn't seem tailored for a movie format, but rather translated directly from the manga's pacing. As a result, each scene often resembles a separate chapter each scene often feels like a separate chapter instead of forming cohesively into a single, unified narrative. This issue is compounded by the fact that this is the first part of a trilogy, leaving many arcs and storylines hanging unresolved.

Because of this, the film suffers from awkward pacing, disrupted narrative flow, and excessive details that feel out of place in this format.

The middle section, in particular, drags to the point where I felt like giving up. However, the final act pulls everything together wonderfully, delivering a powerful and emotionally satisfying conclusion that almost redeems the pacing flaws.

I couldn't help but wonder how much stronger this film might have been if its narrative flow were specifically crafted as a cohesive movie rather than a serialized manga adaptation. Still, despite its structural shortcomings, the movie remains an enjoyable experience—beautifully executed and emotionally impactful.

In my opinion, the film's most successful aspect is how each character has their own arc and development, making the audience root for every character, even the demons! While tightening up the story could have made it so much better, honestly, it's worth watching just for the last act alone. What a moving story!

I really don't understand why this movie marketed itself as a horror thriller with intriguing mysteries when it's clearly a horror comedy. Even the horror elements are mostly from the gore and forced jump scares.

I went in expecting thriller components with a dreadful atmosphere and a script that would make me second-guess, filled with suspense and nuanced developments as the movie progressed. And it was somewhat like that…for like 15 minutes.

All the setups led nowhere, and the characters lacked depth with minimal development. The details appeared either to amuse, confuse, or simply create an atmosphere. At times, it felt like the filmmakers were merely letting us tag along on this absurd story, without offering the substantial context that could have been there. There were a lot of elements they could have explored to create a genuine thriller, mystery, or horror story. It's somewhat disappointing.

However, when viewed as a dark comedy, I must admit I quite enjoyed it.

Structuring the story chapters from multiple character perspectives is always engaging, and I genuinely appreciate this aspect of the film. The chapters build upon the previous ones while offering distinct atmospheres. As the cinematography and musical score effectively set the atmosphere, providing each character with a unique ambiance that aligns with their perspective.

The emotional highs and lows in this movie feel like a roller coaster ride. When it turns dark, it's deeply depressing and filled with despair; when it shifts to fun, it goes completely bonkers. The jump scares are comical yet well-timed, and the ending is pure chaos. I love it!

I believe Josh Brolin's character summed up the story perfectly with his exclamation, "What the fuck?”—reflecting how both the characters and even the audience tries to make sense of such a ridiculous story.

But sometimes, a story doesn't have to make any senses to be enjoyable, and this movie is so much fun that I found myself running out of the cinema Naruto-style.

The Naked Gun surprised me in both good and disappointing ways.

The cinematography are surprisingly great in this movie. And I especially loved how committed the cast was to the humor, especially Liam Neeson. It's impressive to see seasoned actors act silly and fully embrace the absurdity of it all like this. I can only imagine how much fun the behind-the-scenes atmosphere must have been for the cast and crew.

Going in, I expected a silly, over-the-top comedy, but ironically, the movie didn't lean into the absurdity as much as I thought it would. At times, it seemed to hold back, trying to stay somewhat grounded instead of going all out. I don't mind silliness at all—in fact, I love silly movies—so the approach they chose is bit disappointing for me.

Besides the fact that the pacing felt rough, and the editing need a bit more punch to enhance the comedic timing, what disappointed me most were the jokes themselves. Many felt forced and didn't blend naturally into the storyline. It's a shame because when the humor landed, it made me laugh out loud, sometimes to the point of gasping for breath. Unfortunately, a lot just really fell flat for me, resulted in awkward giggles rather than genuine laughter from time to time.

Still, the film is a lot of fun and that's usually enough for this kind of movie. They throw jokes at you almost every minute, so you're bound to find some that hit the mark. If you're just looking for a good time, I think this movie is a solid choice.

I've been thinking about how the Doomsday movie feels like walking a tightrope for Marvel right now. With barely any hype or buildup, it's hard to imagine how they can introduce so many characters properly without stumbling, let alone deliver a compelling storyline. The writers of Doomsday and Secret Wars must be feeling the pressure, like they're about to lose balance and fall off the wire at any moment.

That got me thinking that an Avengers vs. Avengerz movie would have been the perfect setup before Doomsday. It could have pitted these characters against each other, then building rapport, teamwork, and giving us a chance to reconnect with some heroes who've kinda fallen off the radar after appearing so long ago. Imagine a storyline where two teams compete to prove who's the strongest and most capable—only for a third, more powerful faction with stronger bonds to emerge as the true leader. We'd get the character development and relationship dynamics that are sorely missing right now, and this would also allow us to finally invest in these characters we clearly need at this point.

Currently, it's hard to care about these characters, either individually and collectively. But if we had a movie that really brought them together and developed their arcs, the stakes and emotional impact when Doctor Doom inevitably wreaks havoc across the universe would hit way harder.

If they treated this as a trilogy—Avengers vs. Avengerz as the hero build-up, Doomsday as the villain's rise, and Secret Wars as the epic conclusion—this whole arc would make way more sense and feel much more satisfying and coherent.

It certainly reminded me of Superman with how it just instantly throws you into the story, which I believe was a misstep for both films, as audiences could not fully form a strong emotional connection with these freshly introduced characters.

The story is simple and straightforward, perhaps overly so; too simple, in a way. It feels bare-bones, lacking depth, and merely follows the planned story beats from start to finish. This approach might work for an established world and characters, but I don’t think this no-frills, fast-paced style is suitable for this project. The story could have benefited from more breathing room. That’s the reason I truly enjoyed the first act, but the enjoyment diminished as the film progressed.

The cast exceeded my expectations, I thought they were miscast at first, but still left much to be desired. They captured the family dynamic well enough, but they lack the charisma and charm of the previous 2005 cast. I think some parts are due to the lack of character building on screen. There should have been more time dedicated to developing the characters’ histories, personalities, and motivations. Letting them banter, crack jokes, or consoling each other are simply not enough.

I don’t understand why the writers of these superhero films keeps overlooking the basics of storytelling: presenting motivations, character flaws, and overcoming those flaws are the cornerstones of any hero’s journey, folks!!

Sue Storm carried the movie so hard I felt embarrassed for other characters in this film. Despite being the smartest character, Reed in this film consistently makes plans filled with holes and lacks backup strategies. The most disappointing part is how quickly he (temporary) gives up when the plan fails; it is disheartening to see him unwilling to put up a fight when the stakes are so high. Johnny is quite okay, but he’s not that charming in this version. And they did The Thing so dirty, he barely got moments to shine.

Surprisingly, all scenes featuring the Silver Surfer are fantastic! I felt like the crew may have prioritized her character to the point that there might be a bit of bias. Because she got more material to work with than others, and her action scenes are well-thought-out, which is frankly, a weird decision how they put so much care into this character over The Fantastic Four. But I'm not going to complain about some good quality in the film.

The latter half of the movie misses the mark and lacks substance, in my opinion. I did not feel the stakes, emotional weight, or tension at all. The absence of civilian engagements, leaves the apocalyptic tension feeling hollow. It would have been far better to see civilian interactions in these situations when they get roped into this end-of-the-world scenario from personal perspectives. Without showing us how frightening the situation truly was, the stakes feel diminished. Moreover, the final act's action scenes fall flat. Galactus acting like Godzilla chilling in a park is just not it.

Despite these drawbacks, I really love this retro-futuristic setting and the world they created here. The visuals, mood, tone, and atmosphere of this film are very well executed and fitting to the story. I just wish we could have seen more of it.

All in all, this version of Fantastic Four used a similar storytelling approach to Superman but with less quality and emotional depth to match. It's a shame because many issues could have been addressed in the script by allowing scenes and characters more space to develop. (Or perhaps they filmed it but got cut out, in that case it would have been on the editing team) Nevertheless, it remains enjoyable and feels like Marvel is slowly coming back to its form. I just have my doubts about whether it will progress fast enough before they lose even more audience at this point.

Karate Kids Legends is one of the most disappointing and frustrating movies I've watched recently. Not because it's unwatchable, but because of the huge untapped potential that got wasted on this project. How could they fumble this so hard?!!

The film has a fantastic cast, impressive choreography, and solid premises, but it suffers from a weak script and some of the worst filmmaking I’ve seen in a martial arts movie. Despite having actors capable of incredible stunts, they are so underutilized it’s criminal.

The crew seems to lack any real understanding of what makes a martial arts film work, and there’s an absence of passion for the genre. At times, it even felt like someone secretly dislike martial arts but stayed for the paycheck. They may be great in other genres, who knows, but they lack the necessary skills and intuition for this type of film. What a waste, truly. I couldn’t help but imagine how much better the movie could have been in more capable hands.

The cinematography fails to capture the fluid motion the action sequences deserve. The editing lacks emotional weight and struggles with pacing. The score and soundtrack is equally underwhelming, unable to deliver the necessary tension and energy. Direction is sorely lacking in vision. They just couldn't integrate any technical aspects that make a martial arts movie captivating.

Relentless close-ups and frantic, sloppy editing utterly ruin the action sequences. Martial arts are impressive because of their fluid movements, but this film does everything possible to avoid showing us those moments. Instead, it devolves into a poor montage of Kung Fu and Karate moves rather than telling a compelling story of overcoming challenges—a central theme in any martial arts film. Frankly, it feels almost insulting to the genre to handle the action this way.

The premise is promising. The first act lays the groundwork for compelling storylines, but instead of developing them properly, the movie rushes from beat to beat, cramming in too many plot points with no emotional depth or substance. There’s so little reasons for the audience to invest in any of these arcs.

Consider the potential plots:
– A traumatized kid teaching a former boxer kung fu; intriguing.
– A kung fu and karate master blending their teachings to guide the same kid; fascinating.
– A boy coping with guilt and regret over his brother’s death and his own inaction to help; devastating.

These ideas could easily have supported an entire trilogy if only the filmmakers knew how to flesh out and develop them masterfully. Instead, they jumbled everything together, hoping something would resonate with the audience.

I'm curious about what happened in the writing room and how they decided to cram all these storylines when they only had 90 minutes to tell a story. And despite so much setup, it still forces the story back to the repetitive tournament formula that doesn't even show us the full fights! The final fight, which should have been the climax of the story, falls completely flat, with no tension whatsoever.

However, the choreography for most fight scenes is great. I especially loved the well-executed street fight sequence in the first act. I wish the whole movie was shot, choreographed, and edited in that manner.

The cast is fantastic; each actor brings their own charm to the table. The characters are likeable and had the potential to be memorable. The actors do well with what they’re given, though I can only imagine their disappointment with the final product. So many intriguing characters, yet none are properly developed. And honestly, I just love seeing Jackie Chan on screen again. He's such a legend.

Despite all the disappointments, I still enjoyed the movie thanks to its cast and choreography. After all, the main draw is the martial arts, and they did deliver well enough on that front. There are some great moments scattered throughout, martial arts fans may find enough to appreciate, just don’t expect it to be a great movie overall.

This sincere and kind-hearted tone suits Superman so well, I'm glad they finally got that right; he now truly embodies a symbol of hope.

The story is very fast-paced and plot-driven, which might feel a bit too packed. This is just my opinion, but I would have preferred a character-driven narrative to introduce a new universe like this. Nonetheless, it's a well-crafted action-hero film.

The score is amazing. The production is excellent. The cinematography is TERRIFIC, with many impressive framing choices. (I'm not sure if it was because I watched it on a standard screen, but some shots felt slightly cropped. But it's no big deal).

The cast is perfect, each bringing their own charisma and personality that fit their characters flawlessly. I especially loved Lex Luthor's portrayal! I'm a bit annoyed, though, that they didn't let him fully elaborate on his plan or finish his side of the argument. He also was nerfed so heavily at the end that it felt like they just wanted to wrap up the story quickly at that point.

It's unfortunate that, despite such a fantastic cast, the script didn't give them enough room to truly shine. The film skips over much of the world-building and character introductions, which might make it difficult for newcomers to connect with any of the characters. I understand the desire to avoid rehashing origin stories, but there should have been a better way to develop the characters. (Calling out names a few times and showcasing—but not explaining—powers already feels generous for this film, lol.) At the very least, more scenes with the Kent family should have been included, so the audience could grasp why Superman, despite his god-like powers, is filled with heart, humility, and profound love for humanity.

Don't get me wrong—I believe Superman is a great superhero film. It's just not the story I would personally choose to introduce a new universe, as I doubt this will make newcomers fall in love with this world or with Superman as a person.

I imagine they made this movie to reignite love for superhero films in general, rather than focusing specifically on Clark Kent. If that's the case, then I'm already looking forward to all the upcoming movies in this new DC Universe. It's just a shame, because Clark Kent/Superman is such a fascinating character! At a time when true goodness is so rare like this, this film could have been the perfect vehicle to showcase the spirit of a flawed yet earnest man dedicated to becoming better, by constantly pushing himself to grow and (literally and figuratively) uplifting those around him. They could have saved some storylines for future films and allowed the central themes of Superman/Clark Kent to resonate more deeply with the audience, which might have resulted in a stronger and more powerful film, in my opinion.

Overall, I think this is truly a Superman movie in comic-book style, and I enjoyed it more than I expected. All my nitpicking comes from the many missed opportunities that could have brought the film closer to perfection.

But hey, for anyone still on the fence about this movie, let me just say that our Superdog, Krypto, is absolutely adorable! I could watch this little cutie with a huge smile and say it's well worth my money and more.

It feels like a misstep not to dive into the heart and soul of the Superman/Clark Kent character, especially since the titular character is Superman himself. I find it hard to believe there will be another chance to explore this iconic character in such depth, particularly when the story seems so eager to jump straight into action as quickly as possible.
If it were up to me, I’d throw the audience into Clark Kent’s juggling of his many roles: a good person, a son, a journalist, a boyfriend, a teammate, and, of course, a hero. Who is he really? We don’t know because he doesn’t even fully know himself yet. Taking us on that journey of self-discovery and seeing how he, like any of us, struggles to define himself, let alone calling himself a hero, would make for a far richer story.
Heck, even just staying with the conflict feeling about his biological parents holding very different views than him for 20 minutes longer would allow us to see Superman for who he truly is.
All the key ingredients are there, but he just shrugged them off and went for a full-on speed run—which is a real shame. Some emotional depth could’ve taken the film and Superman to the next height. Instead, the script’s way too packed and definitely needs a reminder that sometimes, less is more, and slow and steady wins the race. This isn’t The Flash movie, after all!

However, the most disappointing aspect of this movie, in my opinion, is the design of the new dinosaur. It’s baffling how they resemble creatures from the Alien franchise more than dinosaurs. As a dinosaur movie, one would expect creature design to be a priority, but the new dinosaur falls short and feels off-putting. This mutant dinosaur seems shoehorned in merely to add fresh elements rather than enrich the story. While it may be forgivable to overlook the human elements in a dinosaur-centric film, failing to make the dinosaurs themselves intriguing and memorable is such a let-down. (And no, one cute dinosaur doesn’t compensate for this!)

Despite its flaws, Jurassic World: Rebirth shines in its action sequences that are consistently thrilling with edge-of-your-seat moments. The film's dynamic camera work, immersive sound design, and powerful score combine to effectively create tension between the situations and characters. This craftsmanship makes this movie a little more worthwhile.

Overall, If you are looking for a good story, this is not it. But it's still enjoyable enough to recommend it for dinosaur enthusiasts—just try to overlook the final creature. If you can imagine it as an alien rather than prehistoric beasts, it might make the experience a bit more enjoyable.

With its stunning cinematography, immersive sound design, and powerful score—though Hans Zimmer feels slightly out of his element here—F1 The Movie is a crowd-pleaser you can't help but enjoy.

The car racing scenes are spectacular. Unfortunately, the storyline outside the races feels fairly average. For a narrative centered on taking risks and trusting the driver, the storytelling often pulls back into the pits instead of letting these fantastic characters take the wheel and make decisions on their own.

Just as the scenes and conversations become engaging, they pull out too quickly, like planning too many pit stops and being too eager to finish the race. This pacing leaves the story feeling fleeting and somewhat underdeveloped.

That said, this didn't hamper the performances of these outstanding cast. They all completely nail their roles, bringing depth and authenticity that elevate the material.

Besides, we all know why we're here: for the car racing. And on that front, the film delivers marvelously. The intensity, exhilaration, and emotional highs and lows you expect from a racing movie are fully immersed in every race sequence.

My only real gripe is the soundtrack. While there are a few standout tracks—especially Ed Sheeran's song during the end credits—most of the musical choices didn't quite didn't land on me. They only gained momentum by the last act and peaked by the time the credits rolled, which felt a bit too late. I found myself wishing for some electrifying rock music with a killer guitar solo, or maybe some drums and bass to heighten the adrenaline.

Anyway, overall, I still enjoyed this film a lot. I believe it has that blockbuster quality, a notch above the average for such movies, and I really liked it.

Elio is a welcoming surprise. Initially, I had low expectations for this movie after watching the trailer.⁠ But after I saw the initial reception, which was quite positive, I became curious to see it for myself. So, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did.

While this movie is clearly aimed more at children than adults, it still tells a touching story. The visuals and story are vibrant, whimsical, and delightfully silly, with a setting that's out of this world, literally, since it has a space-related theme. Despite its playful tone and the out-of-touch from reality, it's also quite emotional. The creators nailed both the humor and heartfelt moments beautifully.

I love how they're trying to convey the feelings of loneliness and not belonging anywhere. ⁠⁠The story follows Elio as he ventures into outer space, discovers what's truly out there, and learns to find his sense of belonging in a complete unknown territory. The movie builds this theme beautifully and delivers it effectively—bringing the message home, quite literally. I love that. I think it's a challenging topic for a kid's movie to tackle in a fun way, yet they succeed in this one. ⁠Though the approach is undeniably silly, it's fun, and I genuinely laughed at the jokes and storyline.

“Well, I like you, and you seem fine to me.”

I also appreciate the film's message that uniqueness can sometimes make us feel lonely, but even in a world that encourages conformity, we can embrace our unique selves and still feel loved anyway. But they could have reinforced the message more strongly and been more fully developed with the ending, and it would be a better movie for it.

If you’re looking for a full-on zombie movie, this might disappoint you, as it leans more toward a post-apocalyptic world after civilization falls and how people live in this new normal with a quarantined life while the rest of the world still carries on.

This movie has fewer jump scares and action, and more blood and gore, but it focuses even more on a slow buildup and creating a frightening, intense atmosphere.

I think it’s safe to say that this movie is the opposite of 28 Weeks Later, the second film of this franchise.

It creates intense horror, emotional depth, and outstanding visuals. It’s more than just the brutal violence of life battling with zombies; it includes contemplative moments about life and death and how people adapt to this kind of lifestyle.

I enjoyed seeing how the old and new generations communicate with each other and try to fill gaps between lost history and cultures. It’s not only about individual or species survival but also the survival of cultures and society as a whole.

Story-wise, I still prefer the original movie, 28 Days Later. However, 28 Years Later excels far more in everything else.

I was genuinely impressed by the cast's powerful and authentic performances, which made the story deeply gripping and emotionally moving. The film thoughtfully explores the complex relationships between characters.

I admit that I watched this movie solely in preparation for "28 Years Later," as I'm eager to see Jodie Comer's performance. LOL

Although the movie is over 20 years old, it holds up so well for a (technically not) zombie film. I suppose it marks the beginning of the 'zombies running around are terrifying, but people are worse' genre.

I was pleasantly surprised by the film's script, which exceeded my expectations. Moreover, its filmmaking elements remain impressive, even by today's standards.

I particularly enjoyed the first act, which immerses us in the horror 28 days after the infection's spread, through the eyes of a character completely unaware of the surrounding chaos. It gradually reveals his transformation and evolving attitude toward the dire situation he got thrown into.

But at the end of the day, regardless of how absurd the circumstances may be, as long as there are people involved, it ultimately boils down to people hurting people, just the same.

First off, exploiting (neurodivergent) kids for free labor to carry out clever—but clearly illegal—activities left a bad taste in my mouth. Additionally, The Accountant 2 glosses over the complexities of being neurodivergent, even more so than the first one. While I understand that the movie wasn't meant to be profound, these underlying issues are troubling.

The crime subplot in this movie is also quite lackluster, feeling forced and unnecessary. This is especially evident as the main characters doesn't seem to have a significant role in the investigation. In fact, the story could work just as well without the crime subplot, which seems to exist solely to maintain continuity with the first film's formula.

The only highlight of the film is the dynamic between the two brothers. In this sequel, though the same underlying issues between them remain, it's quite enjoyable to see them develop a stronger bond and share more moments together. However, I don't mind it that much if it means I get to enjoy these batshit insane and intense stunts as one last hurrah from Tom Cruise. Yet, you can’t do much about it because she’s your sister, and you’re too overstressed and exhausted to deal with any of it. (Honestly, I’d love to watch that version!)

Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and couldn’t help but smile throughout. The emotional moments were also touching enough to get me a little teary-eyed in some scenes. What captivated me most was Stitch’s character and his dangerously cute charm. The attention to detail in his interactions and mannerisms was mesmerizing—watching him is such a joy that I wouldn’t mind doing it all day. The actors also delivered incredible performances for this light and fun movie, infusing each character with warmth and likability, making it hard not to fall in love with them all.

You might even find yourself being the first to crumble.

Those oppressed by authority are silenced and abused, becoming submissive out of fear for their own lives. This emotional manipulation distorts facts and truths into something one must deflect for survival.

Initially, the oppressed individuals are silenced and compelled to comply with their oppressors while trying to find compromises for each side, but eventually, they yearn for escape and an end to suffering.

I find this aspect particularly poignant, and encapsulates the sentiments that many people have been feeling, though outsiders often overlook this perspective and turn a blind eye.

The Rebels

Some viewers might be turned off by the third act, as it shifts more toward a thriller genre. However, I find it fitting for the story. When discussing oppression on a societal scale, people often lack sympathy and empathy, dismissing it as an out-of-sight, out-of-mind issue. But when scaled down to a domestic level, the danger and urgency of controlling dynamics become starkly evident. It’s a race against time, where one side attempts to catch and control, while the other desperately tries to survive and escape.

Seemingly trivial interactions and conflicts may appear insignificant at first, but if no one listens and sets aside personal interests, they can escalate into something far more problematic. When opposing sides confront each other, it creates mistrust, paranoia, and disruption, tearing everything apart. Trust becomes a rare commodity, and no one listens to one another. Each side drifts further apart, creating larger divides over time. You can see the cracks developing, and eventually, something will break.

The younger generations, if they want to break free—not break apart—from such dynamics, must be smarter and more proactive. They need to speak out and devise strategies to overcome their oppressors.

I love how all of this is conveyed and portrayed in the third act, which effectively summarizes the feelings surrounding the entire situation. The cinematography, sound design, music, and editing all work together to create a truly immersive experience.

Brutalist is an impressive film with a captivating storyline. I'm amazed by how they crafted such compelling and complicated background stories for something that isn't based on real events or people.

On one hand, the movie's message suggests that, just as buildings with strong cores and foundations can withstand any situation, challenge, or threat, love is equally strong. Love is the foundation of life, and you build your existence around it. If you have love in your heart, your life becomes meaningful and worthwhile, and you will have the resilience to withstand the test of time.

Comparing love to buildings is a poignant analogy. An architect can design anything as long as the foundation is solid. Unlike art, buildings are not highly subjective, as they do not require extensive interpretation; they simply exist as structures designed to last. There is no need to search for meaning or interpretation. Similarly, love remains constant, regardless of circumstances. Whatever challenges may come, love endures.

On the other hand, the movie slapped you back to the reality by deconstructing the László Tóth's life. It highlights his struggles in an unwelcoming society marked by social classes, cultural differences and racism, which constantly threaten his life and aim to crush his spirit.

"You're my plaything, you're beneath me, I can do whatever I want to you and I take the power you have and give it to myself."

The reality is disheartening; no matter how hard one tries to prove their worth—something they should not have to do to live their lives—they are often perceived as outsiders or lesser beings. When repeatedly told they are lesser, they may internalize this belief, leading them to stop advocating for themselves and conform to others' expectations. It is a heartbreaking situation from which many find it difficult to survive, let alone escape.

It feels as though the world has put him on trial to see if his foundations—much like his buildings—can truly endure and transcend space and time. Is it worth the suffering? And at what cost?

Do not confuse fame with love. Fame will not hold you at night; it only pulls you into the spotlight, parading you around until you forget the feeling of a restful night. The warmth of the spotlight can never replace the warmth of someone's embrace.

Better Man is one of the best biographical musical films I have ever watched. I love Rocketman, but Better Man is equally impressive, if not more so in some aspects. The film pushes the boundaries of the genre and medium in every aspect—cinematography, visual effects, editing, musical score, choreography, and storytelling. The depth and intention behind each decision add profound layers of meaning and purpose. The director, Michael Gracey, clearly possesses a vision for the story he wants to tell and knows how to engage the audience effectively. In my opinion, this film serves as a masterclass in filmmaking and storytelling.

The film portrays Robbie Williams' struggles to find his authentic self amidst abandonment issues buried by his rising fame, which affected his mental health and led him down a path of addiction and self-sabotage. It offers a raw and depressing depiction of his mental state throughout his life, despite an exterior that may appear appealing.

Throughout the entire film! Let the fact sink in for a moment before arguing that it doesn't deserve praise for visual effects.

Third, the musical numbers are beautifully crafted with thematic links to his life rather than merely appealing to music fans. It is a joy when songs drive the narrative effectively. The way his songs blend and are recontextualized within the narrative is flawless. Each song serves a distinct purpose, propelling the story forward in a magical way. This film features so many great tracks that I did not want to choose favorites. The score and songs blend seamlessly, creating a cohesive musical piece integral to the hero’s journey in a powerful and entertaining manner.

But the aspect I found most impressive was the editing. Every cut is intentional, building the narrative and visualizing his emotional state while engaging and entertaining the audience in a way rarely seen in other films. This is truly cinema. This meticulous approach results in a masterpiece of filmmaking and storytelling. However, the film does not appear pretentious; it tells the story in a way that captivates and entertains a broad audience effectively. A great film does not need to be difficult to watch; it simply needs to convey a compelling story. In my opinion, Better Man succeeds in every aspect.

The Red Envelope is an adaptation of a Taiwanese film, Marry My Dead Body, into a Thai movie. While I am not sure of the specific differences between the two versions, I find this adaptation humorous and filled with heartfelt moments. The storyline, though deserving of more depth and nuance, successfully delivers delightful comedy.

Its charm primarily lies in the chemistry between the actors. The natural rapport between the leads, who have collaborated for over a decade, is undeniable. Their relationship translates effortlessly on screen, creating a genuinely adorable dynamic that enhances the comedic timing. Plus, the dog is incredibly cute!

The film, unfortunately, loses direction in the middle, with sections that drag and at times feel aimless. The pacing is uneven, and some jokes miss the mark. However, the strong beginning and conclusion redeem the film by tying together the storylines and characters. It successfully evokes heartfelt moments that left me unexpectedly emotional for a comedy.

I believe this movie could benefit from more dialogue and situations to emphasize its themes of LGBTQIA+ inclusive storytelling. Additionally, tighter editing and a more engaging sound and music score would enhance the overall experience. Despite these drawbacks, the film was incredibly enjoyable, and I had a great time watching it.

Once again, welcome to my personal analysis of my favorite movies which I like to call My Own Oscar Award. After watching most of the nominations and beyond, I couldn’t help but compare these films to each other. My personal picks focused not on the names, prestige, or past work of the filmmakers, but rather on the impact these films had on me in each category.

Each category features nominations that truly sparked something within me. I will only write about categories that I am passionate about, and I removed the animated and international films categories because, to me, film is film, they should be considered on its own merit, not medium or origins. Additionally, I have included music scores and songs that are not entirely original for the films, as I believe good music drives the narrative regardless.

I must warn you, though: my picks will look a lot different from the actual Oscar winners. In fact, I threw in films that didn’t snag a single nomination, just because it deserves a shout-out!

The Substance: There’s really no contest here: The Substance is the clear winner, hands down. The body horror still haunts me every time I think about it. They really went all out to get the point of grotesqueness across!

Best Costume Design: Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Wicked: The costume in this movie are all gorgeous with rich and detailed textures, fit the tone of elegant and magical of the story.

Dune: Part Two: It’s fascinating to witness the cultures that the movie builds within Dune’s universe. The blend of historical and futuristic styles creates new, unique cultures specifically crafted for the story. The costumes are well-crafted, each reflecting the diverse backgrounds of each character.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: I just love the unique designs in the Mad Max universe. You can immediately recognize it as part of the Mad Max world. In this film, the costumes even evolve alongside Furiosa’s character, reflecting her transformation from a victim mentality to that of a badass warrior.

Best Visual Effects: Dune: Part Two, Better Man, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Dune: Part Two: The blend between practical and visual effects is so flawless that it truly feels like we’re looking into another world, with epic settings and stunning visuals. The sandworm riding scene has become instantly iconic.

Better Man: The filmmakers chose to make the main character a chimpanzee—dressed in fancy human clothing, performing several musical numbers, and interacting with people, even a full crown of them—acting erratic yet with such distinctly human behaviors and expressions. Throughout the entire movie! Let that sink in for a moment before arguing that it doesn’t deserve praise in this category.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: The OG apes franchise that led the industry, and keeps only getting better. It got crazily too realistic, these apes might actually come and take over our world soon!

Best Production Design: Wicked, Dune: Part Two, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Wicked: Wicked’s production design rivals that of Barbie, yet it unfolds within a far more expansive universe. The creative team primarily uses practical sets, incorporating mechanical elements to facilitate smooth scene transitions. Each set is breathtakingly beautiful, exuding a sense of majesty and magic, with unique and stunning details that truly captivate me.

Dune: Part Two: The production of this franchise continues to expand, with meticulous attention to details in constructing an absolutely mind-blowing believable world. It offers an immersive epic visual experience, capturing an unparalleled level of scale and precision, that only a few can achieve.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: Another outstanding production design that crafts a truly unique world. Every element in this film appears gritty, cool, and immersive. The creativity and innovation infused into each detail enrich the visual storytelling of this franchise, making it truly admirable. I could never tire of witnessing this extraordinary world-building unfold on screen.

My Way (Better Man): It’s such a bliss when songs beautifully drive the narrative in a movie. This film features so many great tracks that I didn’t even want to choose favorites. I also love how the score and songs blend seamlessly in this movie. It feels like one cohesive musical piece, effectively integral with the hero’s journey in a powerful and entertaining way both in terms of emotions and storytelling.

Defying Gravity (Wicked): This has become an iconic anthem! The performance in the movie is so powerful that I find myself cheering and internally screaming throughout the entire song. Every song in this movie is also an absolute blast, and I enjoy them all.

สวยงามเสมอ/永远/Ever-Forever (How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies): One of the most beautiful songs with such a soothing melody that evokes memories between you and your loved ones. It captures perfectly the movie’s tone and emotions. Both Thai and Chinese versions are available. I highly recommend giving it a listen, even if you don’t know the languages.

Best Score: Dune: Part Two, The Brutalist, The Wild Robot

Dune: Part Two: This is not just Hans Zimmer, but PEAK Hans Zimmer! It is one of the best scores with epic themes ever. It’s remarkable how the music builds upon the foundation of the first film, evolving into something even more grand and rich, and enhancing the continuity of the storytelling.

The Brutalist: The score perfectly complemented the narrative, enhancing the emotions in each scene with stunning style—bold, strong, yet poignant. Its evocative style serves the thought-provoking discussions in the film very well. The transition shifting between grandiosity and depression feelings is seamless, adding such depth to the narrative.

The Wild Robot: This score is so rich with character, as its the dynamic and instrumental composition beautifully and playfully elevates the uplifting experience. You could close your eyes and simply enjoy the music, but combined with such a charming story and unique visual style, it elevates the entire experience to a whole new level.

Best Sound: Civil War, Dune: Part Two, Flow, The Wild Robot

Civil War: The sound design in Civil War blew my mind (and perhaps even my eardrums, LOL). The team incredibly clever and effective ways to use sound—and the absence of it—to tell a story, create tension, and highlight the contrast between the chaos of war and moments of self-reflection amidst of it. The immersive soundscapes made me feel as if I were actually in the war zone.

Dune: Part Two: It’s incredibly realistic and immersive; it genuinely feels like these worlds exist. I felt completely transported alongside the characters. The use of sound also enhances the experience by creating an intense sense of danger and tension, keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Flow: Since this movie doesn’t have any dialogues, the filmmakers heavily relied on the natural sounds of animals and the surrounding environment. It feels as if you are in their world, coming along and joining them on their little adventure. What a lovely experience!

The Wild Robot: The sound design for this movie, particularly in the opening scene, is truly remarkable. It’s so innovative and unique, blending the futuristic and robotic elements with the natural environment. I can’t help but wonder how the film would be without dialogue for the animals, similar to the approach in Flow.

Better Man: I don’t care what others say; I believe the editing in the movie Better Man is a work of art in filmmaking. Every transition between shots and scenes is executed flawlessly and seamlessly. It not only enhances the narrative and builds tension, but also synchronizes perfectly with the soundtracks. Despite the complexity of the transitions, it all feels effortlessly cohesive. The integration of visual effects with the transitions is outstanding, creating a truly remarkable viewing experience. I find myself wondering just how much preparation was required to achieve such precise coordination on all fronts. The film unapologetically employs a stylized approach that elevates the emotions to new heights. It doesn’t conform to conventional norms, and that’s what makes the editing of this film so enjoyable. For me, Better Man is a clear standout.

Nosferatu: The film editing in Nosferatu is masterfully designed, guiding viewers towards an unsettling truth. I love this editing style; it’s brilliantly integrated with the soundscape, haunting score, and atmospheric cinematography. The first act, particularly the first castle scenes, is such exceptional editing. I found myself completely captivated, experiencing terror alongside the character. The editing is effective, skillfully intercutting scenes, setting an intentional pace, and selecting visuals with precision. Each scene is expertly cut, with the use of shadows and light enhancing the immersion, allowing you to feel the characters' emotions. Nothing is overdone, and the attention to detail is remarkable—from moments that demand a slower tempo to those that require a quickened pace. Every aspect of the editing is executed flawlessly. It creates an atmosphere that guides you toward a lurking horror that you can feel in your bones. It’s truly a standout in its genre.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: In my opinion, Mad Max: Fury Road excels with some of the finest action scene editing I’ve ever seen, and Furiosa carries on that tradition. They resist the temptation to confuse viewers for the sake of creating a sense of speed. Instead, they skillfully direct our attention to the story’s central elements—the characters. This approach makes every action scene even more captivating.

Muhammad Rasuloff (The Seed of The Sacred Fig): Movies are often crafted for entertainment, but sometimes they can also serve as powerful political statements and forms of activism. As you can see from this movie, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, directed by Muhammad Rasuloff, he doesn’t just shed light on the systemic violence, oppression, and resistance within Iran’s regime; he weaves these elements into a compelling narrative.

Rather than presenting the situation on an overwhelming scale, Rasuloff uses the metaphor of a dysfunctional family to symbolize Iranian society. This approach makes the story urgent and intimate, allowing outsiders a clearer understanding. The film does far more than deliver a message—it forges an emotional connection with the audience.

Rasuloff’s direction is both brilliant and profound. His courageous decision to create this film, despite risks to his life, underscores his commitment to using cinema as a catalyst for positive change in Iran. I wholeheartedly encourage people to watch this movie and hope his mission achieves the impact it aims for.

George Miller (Furiosa): I hold high admiration for George Miller’s unwavering commitment to the Mad Max saga and its expansive universe. Over decades, he has demonstrated an extraordinary dedication to crafting a world that is not only visually breathtaking but also profoundly thought-provoking. Through this universe, he explores the essence of humanity in an apocalyptic setting. I believe no one else could achieve what he has; his unique ability to enrich this world out of nothing more than dunes and sands settings, is unparalleled. Somehow, he imbues it with a distinctive richness, filled with culture and humanity. I remain captivated by how he continues to create an environment that feels both real and distinct.

In “Furiosa,” he further expands this universe by adding character backstories imbued with emotional depth and a compelling hero’s journey. While the film is filled with masterful, visually stunning action sequences, it never loses its narrative momentum, seamlessly advancing the plot even in the heat of battle. It’s remarkable how he crafts characters with such depth and nuance, inviting us to root for them. Furiosa, in particular, emerges from abundance only to face adversity, rising to meet challenges and proving herself to be one of the few in this universe who can stand her ground. Her resilience and perseverance define her as she discovers her identity and learns how to uplift others.

I have nothing but respect for George Miller for his love for the Mad Max universe and how he makes the character Furiosa feel like a whole person in this film.

Better Man (Michael Gracey): I now have become such a devoted fan of Michael Gracey’s work that I’ll eagerly watch any musical film he directs. He possesses a clear vision of the story he wants to tell and knows precisely how to engage the audience. He has a remarkable ability to blend and recontextualize songs within the narrative, something few can achieve, so flawlessly. Each song serves a distinct purpose, driving the narrative forward in a seemingly magical way. His meticulous approach results in a masterpiece of filmmaking and storytelling.

With a clear vision and unwavering commitment, Elliot carves his own path, indifferent to conventional filmmaking methods. His process and style are entirely his own, and he pursues his vision relentlessly, even if it takes years to materialize. I hold him in the highest regard.

His work on “Memoir of a Snail” is a testament to his craftsmanship, with a level of detail that far surpasses ordinary imagination. From the opening scene, where myriad objects are meticulously placed, I could tell right away that the film is a labor of pure dedication, love, and passion for storytelling.

Adam Elliot deserved recognition due to his ability to blend emotional depth, technical mastery, and artistic authenticity in this remarkable film. This achievement combines all the technical aspects, all his visions, and all his styles, with such profound emotional and visual storytelling. I can tell that this movie is a summation of his own life philosophy. You could never have someone pour his soul into his art like this. I’m just grateful that I got to witness this film on the big screen and see the meticulous film production and design to its full extent.

Usha Seamkhum (How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies): This is her first acting role, and her real personality is so different from the character she plays. Yet, in my opinion, she delivered one of the best performances ever. It felt so authentic, as if there were no cameras involved at all. If you’re of Chinese descent, like me, you might mistake her for your own grandma in the way she talks and acts. Every time I looked into her eyes, I felt a sense of warmth, nostalgia, and longing. It made me want to hug my grandma after the movie ended, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt this way.

Soheila Golestani (The Seed of the Sacred Fig): Attempting to navigate life while witnessing the fractures in your beloved family, and striving with all your might to prevent the family you know and love from crumbling before your eyes, is such a challenging — and sometimes seemingly impossible — task. You might even find yourself being the first to crumble. This is one of the most realistic and powerful portrayals of a mother managing her household and family that I’ve ever watched.

Mikey Madison (Anora): While _Anora _isn’t my personal favorite film, there’s no denying that Mikey’s acting is exceptional. Her performance captivated me from start to finish, with her mastery of body language, subtle micro-expressions, and effective speech delivery. These elements combine to create an authentic and nuanced portrayal that brings her character to life. Much of the movie’s success can be attributed to her outstanding performance.

Ariana Grande (Wicked): I just want to give a shout-out to her portrayal of Glinda. I absolutely had a blast watching her perform and sing throughout the movie.

Adrien Brody (The Brutalist): Adrien Brody delivers a masterful and challenging performance as László Tóth, a Holocaust survivor and architect. He navigates the multifaceted journey of his character with remarkable depth, capturing the struggles of an immigrant in a hostile environment. Brody’s portrayal is rich in emotional complexity, showing a wide range of feelings—from hope and determination to despair and frustration, from moments of happiness to profound depression. His nuanced acting allows audiences to witness the spectrum of pain, joy, and the subtle shifts in expression as his character adapts to changing circumstances. Through his performance, he powerfully conveys László’s suffering, resilience, artistic passion, and the despair that ensues when everything begins to fall apart. Brody’s portrayal is truly exceptional and truly deserves recognition.

Putthipong Assaratanakul (How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies): One of the most devastated crying performances I’ve ever seen, it absolutely wrecked me. I love how his acting subtly reflects his character’s evolving understanding and shifting perspectives on life, all conveyed with minimal dialogue. He is exceptionally talented at expressing genuine emotions.

Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown): Singing, playing guitar, and playing harmonica simultaneously is challenging enough for any artist. However, he does all this while also portraying the real-life character of Bob Dylan, performing everything live! And…he absolutely nails it all!

Best Cinematography: Nosferatu, Dune: Part Two, Flow

Nosferatu:

“Nosferatu” undoubtedly showcases the best cinematography of the year. It stands as a masterpiece in both cinematography and filmmaking as a whole. The film is crafted with exceptional skill. The brilliance lies not only in its visuals, but also in the techniques employed to evoke a sense of darkness and shadow. It is ideal for horror visuals—haunting and immersive. Each scene is framed meticulously, embracing a gothic visual style.

I admire the use of uninterrupted, long takes that allow the viewer to closely observe the characters and settings, immersing themselves in each moment. The approach to color is equally brilliant; rather than relying solely on black and white, the film incorporates pale colors to evoke a feeling of life being slowly drained away, akin to a vampire draining its victim’s blood.

In my view, it’s a work of pure genius—remarkably immersive and achieving its creative aims flawlessly. I have no critiques; it comes as close to perfection as possible for this type of story and genre. The aesthetic is unmatched. I genuinely believe this ranks among the best cinematographic experiences.

Dune: Part Two: This movie features some of the most impressive and epic cinematography I have ever seen, with numerous memorable scenes that are sure to become iconic in the film industry. I appreciate how the filmmakers are not hesitant to depict the vast scale of world-building within the Dune universe, rather than focusing solely on the characters. Unlike most movies that maintain a close focus on the characters, “Dune: Part Two” allows us to experience the grandeur of its world. The characters often take a back seat, enabling the audience to fully immerse themselves in the film’s atmosphere and scenery. The dune scenes, in particular, are breathtaking; they transport you right into the desert, making you feel the heat and drought, yet remain in awe of nature at the expansive desert landscape. The use of color is incredibly effective throughout the film. In the scenes on Giedi Prime, the transition to black and white is used to differentiate it from the other worlds in the Dune universe, adding a wonderful artistic touch to the movie. I truly love the film’s grand scale and visual storytelling. It truly is an epic experience.

Flow: There’s no other movie that allows you to immerse yourself in a character’s natural state quite like “Flow." It allows you to observe the interactions of each animal in their natural environment, capturing their essence with authenticity. The movie refrains from exaggeration; it simply places you alongside the characters. Without the need for thought-provoking dialogue, it simply lets the animals be themselves. I still feel an emotional lump in my throat every time I recall this film. It’s remarkably touching and resonates with me profoundly.

I watched this movie, and just a few months later, my grandmother passed away. I can’t say for certain if it offered premature closure, but it greatly helped me cope with my grief. This film made me feel like I had finally found my way home and will always hold a special place in my heart.

This is the movie I want to define the year—one where filmmaking is both emotional and profound, simultaneously making a statement while captivating hearts. It’s a film that pushes boundaries yet remains firmly rooted in its cultural identity. Better Man:

If you haven’t realized this by now, let me spell it out for you: I love “Better Man.”

I mean, what more could you possibly want in a movie? It’s innovative and spectacular. It blends genres masterfully (Hell, there’s even an epic action scene in this musical biopic!) The editing is top-notch, keeping you invested in the characters throughout the story. It has wonderful character development with a satisfying arc. The musical numbers are fantastic, with top-notch choreography. The visual effects are done in a way that you can’t help but feel in awe of the art of filmmaking. And it’s just so damn entertaining from start to finish. Seriously, what more could you possibly want? This is cinema. There’s no way this could be achieved in any other format, any other medium. I genuinely love this movie.

Bonus: My takes on other Best Picture Nominations and why it didn’t get picked by me.

The storytelling is the top priority in my criteria for Best Picture. Then, I’ll look for how well other aspects support that narrative. If the story itself fell flat to me, it’d be difficult to be my winner.

Anora: While I appreciate the film’s execution, I just don’t personally love the story enough to say it’s my favorite.

A Complete Unknown: The performances are outstanding, but the screenplay doesn’t measure up to those in other films.

Conclave: I greatly admire the movie for its significant intellectual impact on me. However, there are other films that resonate with me on a deeper level.

Emilia Pérez: I believe that Emilia Perez movie is a disgrace among the incredible films on this year’s list. It seems they could have included any other movie, and it would have been a far better choice. It’s truly baffling what they were thinking. I feel disheartened for every film that got snubbed, especially Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Better Man, and How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.

I’m Still Here: This movie features one of the most compelling interrogation scenes. The film is expertly crafted, conveying significant messages that resonate on multiple levels. However, the storyline feels somewhat removed from my personal experiences, making it challenging for me to form a deep connection with it.

Nickel Boys: I appreciate the concept of capturing the first-person point of view on paper, but the execution left me feeling detached rather than invested in the characters most of the time. However, I must admit that there are some remarkable scenes that I personally love.

The Substance: The last act feels somewhat excessive and detracts from the core message. Despite this, I still appreciate the unique style this movie brings to the table.

Wicked: While it’s undeniably a top-tier musical, the color grading choices somewhat diminish its impact. Additionally, the screenplay is not comparable to other movies.

The Brutalist: I genuinely believe that The Brutalist is a remarkable film, and this movie has one of the best opening scenes in my opinion. However, I find its style a bit too performative for my taste. I can admire the film’s technical prowess and the crafted complex backstories of each character; they certainly come across as real individuals on paper. Yet, the more I watch, the more I notice the performative nature of the film, which detracts from my overall experience. Ultimately, while I recognize The Brutalist as an outstanding piece of cinema, it doesn’t resonate with me personally in the deeper level and doesn’t rank among my favorite films.

Dune: Part Two: This movie is undoubtedly a remarkable achievement within the sci-fi genre, showcasing a truly epic grand scale and few films can match. It stands as one of the most epic cinemas, and I truly admire Denis Villeneuve for his dedication and passion in bringing this story to life.

However, I find myself at odds with his directorial choices. In my view, he tends to overlook many elements that contribute to what makes “Dune” exceptional, choosing instead to focus only on religious fanaticism and some political tension.

For instance, it frustrates me that he devoted so much screen time to the arena scenes at the expense of deeper dialogue or a clearer understanding of the significance of Paul’s visions in his character arc, which is so crucial to Dune Messiah’s storyline.

Instead of gradually unfolding the narrative in “Dune Part Two” to lead seamlessly into “Dune Messiah,” we might end up with a rushed explanation of complex themes, or worse, an omission from nuance subjects, especially the philosophical questions, altogether in Dune Messiah. Either way, such a tonal shift of the story could be jarring for general audiences.

Ultimately, I find it difficult to embrace this film as wholeheartedly as I had hoped, despite being a longtime fan of Villeneuve. This is the first time he has disappointed me, and no matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to muster the enthusiasm I wanted to feel.

I, personally, prefer “Dune Messiah” over the first “Dune” novel, and I fear that Denis Villeneuve might opt for a different interpretation altogether. Please don’t butcher this book!

I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I have never watched the original version of Snow White, but isn't the story just plain bad? And aren't all the characters just dumb? The premise seems fundamentally flawed, raising questions about how this story gained enough popularity to warrant a remake in the first place.

The musical numbers are enjoyable, and I like the performances. While the choreography in many numbers is uninspired and lacks creativity, it’s still effective. For a musical, it is not the best, but it is still good enough.

However, beyond the music, the film falls short. It follows predictable story beats without generating real tension or emotion. The dialogue is subpar and fails to deliver any meaningful message.

The acting is decent—acceptable but not exceptional. But, I must say no performance from any actors can redeem this weak storyline, so I do not blame the actors for this flop. The writing is just fundamentally poor.

The only aspect I truly enjoyed was the animals; they are all incredibly adorable! I wish the filmmakers had chosen to focus on them instead of these silly characters. LOL

The action sequences are excellent, characterized by great pacing and a sense of urgency, which effectively build tension and emotion in every scene.

The screenplay and character arcs are also strong; they are satisfying and emotional, drawing me into the characters' journeys. Novocaine is a movie with a fascinating concept for comedy. It's an action comedy where the protagonist goes through terrible, gruesome scenes, but he doesn't feel any pain. So while all these horrible things happen to his body, he remains unfazed, yet we, the audience, internally scream for him. It's an intriguing concept—how much would you feel pain for someone who can't feel it themselves?

Being an action comedy with a touch of romance, it plays to these genres and uses body horror for comedic effect. I don't mind this approach—it's very entertaining, and I found myself laughing and giggling throughout the film thanks to its excellent comedic timing.

I particularly enjoyed the first act. The screenplay is engaging, especially in how it introduces the character, explains his condition, and depicts his daily life. It prompts reflection on real people living with similar conditions and their daily challenges. Ironically, those who cannot feel pain are often more prone to injury, making the story compelling.

Since it's intended to be an action comedy, the storyline went downhill and became somewhat silly after the action begins. The characters' actions often defy logic as the plot moves forward, focusing instead on making the body horror elements funny. Nonetheless, the situations the main character encountered are entertaining.

I would be curious to see another version of this movie with a more serious tone, as I think it could explore deeper themes.
However, the current version is still enjoyable. If you're familiar with the actor, Jack Quaid, you should definitely check it out, because this movie is definitely in his wheelhouse. His performance is great, and he brings his unique style to the role. Just remember to suspend your disbelief after the first act, and you'll have fun with it.

I love the Bong Joon ho's decision to have fun following his major success with this story. He clearly wanted to see Robert Pattinson showcase his unhinged acting abilities, and who could blame him? I mean, is there any role this actor cannot play? Who would have predicted that a performer from Twilight would evolve into one of the best and most versatile actors of our generation? I anticipated another outstanding performance from Pattinson, and I was not disappointed.

I admire the film's blend of silliness with thought-provoking themes, raising philosophical questions that linger throughout. The film cleverly critiques Western idiocy and societal norms, which adds depth to its humor.

What surprised me most was my love for the creepers, the film's unique creatures. They managed to evoke affection in a surprisingly short amount of screen time, leaving me curious to learn more about them.

Growth is something personal, and it's challenging to make others understand the changes within you. And not everyone will understand why you must change at all.

This is even more true in music industry, where resistance to change is so baffling common. When an artist ventures into a different genre, most fans are often reluctant to accept the evolution, preferring artists who have never strayed from their roots.

As Bob Dylan evolved his musical style from traditional folk to electric rock, he faced backlash during his transition.

He wanted his fans and his people to understand that he had changed and didn’t want to be confined to the same box—or any box for that matter—anymore. He aspired to expand his skills, experiences, and identities even further.

However, the manner in which he approached the situation is troubling due to his unpleasant demeanor. His relationship skills are lacking, and he treats people poorly. Instead of building bridges of understanding, he kept burning them, alienating himself further. This made the transition much worse than it needed to be.

My brother jokingly suggested renaming the movie "A Complete Asshole”, and I kind of agree.

I appreciate how the movie portrays the ugly phase of pivotal changes in Dylan's musical journey, paralleling Sylvie's relationship departure. Just as Sylvie, his ex-girlfriend, left him, Dylan had to come to terms that her heart wasn't in it anymore.

It reflects how one can fall out of love with something or someone, and there is no point in trying to hold on when there is nothing left to hold on to. Just as when an artist grows out of a particular phase, returning to it seems like an impossible task.

While revisiting past selves is possible, one's identity and aspirations often no longer align with them anymore.

One frustrating aspect is that by the end, Dylan’s background remains ‘a complete unknown’. Sylvie points out in the story how he never spoke about his family or past, which was a pain point for her. However, this issue was neither resolved nor addressed further, leaving a lack of depth in exploring his personal history and beliefs, which I found to be a shortcoming for the movie. That, and some of his songs are so underutilized in building the narrative.

Despite its flaws, "A Complete Unknown" is a great movie. While the story doesn't have many plot lines and nuances, I find its simplicity can be a strength. It also features an incredible soundtrack that deepens my appreciation for Bob Dylan’s work.

The acting performances are all outstanding, with each cast member delivering remarkable portrayals and vocal performances.

Timothée Chalamet, in particular, has significantly improved his singing skills since "Wonka." Initially, I had doubts, but he proved me wrong in this film. He nailed both the singing and playing the guitar and harmonica. He is genuinely talented, and I believe he deserved the Best Actor award for his performance.

"I'm Still Here" can be interpreted in two ways: as a plea, begging someone to notice you, and simultaneously, as a declaration, taking a stance and holding your ground.

In this narrative, the story embodies both interpretations, making it, in my opinion, a perfect movie title.

It’s a powerful portrayal of lives after the forced disappearance of a family member.

They all know what caused it; they just couldn’t do anything about it. The question is when each of them will accept the situation.

Eunice, however, refuses to simply accept and forget about the injustice; she wants a written confirmation of their unjust suffering. Even though what happened cannot be changed, the feelings surrounding it can. And she is resolute in her mission to make the world recognize the injustice towards her husband. Her goal is not just to clear his name but to seek closure, and potentially bring some justice.

I love how the film painted the picture of how one happy family suddenly got their joy taken away, and then haven't quite fully recovered from that since.

The sound and music score also helped build up the silent pain that lingers throughout the story, while heightening the unspoken truth that has been hanging in the air around this family.

The forced disappearance of a family member may be abrupt, but its aftermath always leaves a void that can never be fully filled and often feels like an endless cycle of grief. This is especially true when there is no real closure to the incident, as it can feel like eternal torture from the uncertainty and the ongoing question of when one should let go.

It is such a painful story that reveals the depth of their sorrow, highlighting how society has turned a blind eye to the real crimes and injustices committed by the government itself.

I really appreciate how the film portrayed the story over a long span of time, allowing us to understand the emotional suffering that affected each character at different stages of their lives.

I also admire how each one of them struggles and fights in their own way to process their trauma. We all process trauma differently, and we each experience the phases of grief at our own pace.

Not all is lost, as it turns out. Despite the never-ending heartbreaks they have endured, they still have each other. Their love gives them the strength to keep living. There is still so much hope, joy, and positivity throughout their lives.

Life is not just happiness or despair; it is the combination of both that makes life meaningful. This movie illustrates how one can find beauty even in the darkest times.
