The Work
The Inspiration
The movie “Sing Street” is a delightful mix of
coming of age, music, rock band passion, romance, and friendship—truly a
gem. But the best part of this movie is the soundtrack!!
I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't watched it yet.
The song "To Find You" from its soundtrack album stole my heart. But as much as I loved "To Find You," I couldn't resist the urge to experiment with the energetic vibes of "Drive It Like You Stole It" for lettering. I liked the message of not wasting your life, and just grasping every moment of it!!
This is your life, you can go anywhere
You gotta grab the wheel and own it
And drive it like you stole it
Roll it, this is your life, you can be anything
You gotta learn to rock and roll it
You gotta put the pedal down
And drive it like you stole it
And drive it like you stole it
The Process
The idea of incorporating the song's lyrics into a car-themed lettering
piece sparked my imagination.
The initial sketch had promise, but as I progressed to digitizing
it, I realized the design wasn't quite aligned with the song's
rebellious spirit. The car I drew didn't quite scream 'stolen' ride, as
the song implied. So, I transformed the design into a sleek sports car
and adjusted the composition to portray movement uphill.
Also, I experimented with a new technique on the words "Your Life"
and I dig it! Gonna try more of that in my future projects.
Lessons learned: I found myself getting carried away with 3D lettering, which ended up disrupting the overall harmony of the design. And my color choices? Not my best work. I should invest some time in learning color theory to step up my design game.
