The Work
This is the lettering piece based on the song Grow As We Go by Ben Platt
The Inspiration
Combining Ben Platt’s divine voice with the wonderful lyrics, and you get one of the most beautiful songs ever. I appreciate the message of "Grow As We Go". You don’t have to grow alone; you should allow people to grow together with you so that you can have each other’s backs.
I don't think you have to leave
If to change is what you need
You can change right next to me
When you're high, I'll take the lows
You can ebb and I can flow
And we'll take it slow
And grow as we go
Grow as we go
The Process
Even before starting, I had the design in mind, so it was a relatively easy task today.
The challenging part, however, was creating a composition that could balance well between legibility and the flow of letters. I experimented with a few versions before settling on the final iteration.
After realizing I had been using too many brushes in one design, I decided to limit myself to using only one brush. Instead, I focused on brush rotation and pressure today.
I wish I could have experimented more with colors and textures, but I ran out of layers multiple times and was too tired to battle with the app. Not bad for a 2-hour work, though.
Lessons Learned: Stick with one brush until you feel it won't work before trying another one. Also, next time, please remember to leave space for page margins! Negative space matters!! And god dang it! I messed up the lyrics again!! LMAO
