The Apprentice movie offers a unique perspective on Donald Trump, highlighting the influence of Roy Cohn. The movie’s release timing is interesting, providing a glimpse into how Trump became the person he is today.
What stands out in The Apprentice is the remarkable acting. While many might focus on Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of Trump, Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Roy Cohn brings more intrigue and depth to the screen. Both actors deserve significant recognition for their performances.
Unfortunately, these strong performances are overshadowed by the screenplay. The dialogue in the first act was excellent, but it slowly went down hill. The storylines are too tame considering the real story. Many storylines are quickly glossed over, and instead, focuses on Donald Trump’s self-perception. It's an odd angle to take because understanding someone's narrative requires context, and this movie seems to strip much of that away.
I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone except those curious about Trump.
