I had no idea what the movie was about; I didn’t even read the synopsis. However, nothing could prepare me for the horror in this film. The fact that it is inspired by real events sent chills down my spine.

The film explores how societal pressures and economic hardship can alienate individuals, compelling them to take extreme measures for survival. This desperation drives people to make questionable choices and seek harmful relationships, all in an effort to survive and experience even a glimpse of warmth to keep going.

That is all I will say about the story, as I believe you should experience it for yourself, going in blind and letting the story take you. If you’re looking for something bleak and disturbing that leaves you questioning humanity, then The Girl with the Needle is right up your alley.

The cinematography is excellent. The black and white enhances the mystery and misery of the characters. The sound and score is so haunting. Everything sets the mood and tone so well, making the horror even more impactful for this type of story.
