We think freedom means being able to say whatever we want. We think freedom means that we can pursue all our desires. Real freedom is letting go of things not wanted, the unchecked desires that lead us to unwanted ends.

I don't like the new direction of Craft.do

After seeing the latest updates and how they’ve been communicated within the Slack community, I’m not sure whether I’ll continue to use Craft in the long run. In my opinion, this indicates a lack of market understanding of their customers. They continued to prioritize major updates to the Business Plan and were puzzled as to why their current users felt ignored. I’m not sure what was going on inside, but it felt as if someone had abruptly decided to change course.

📺 Seeing Tatiana Maslany in She-Hulk Attorney at Law made me happy; she did a phenomenal job in Orphan Black (highly recommended), so I’m glad she finally got the big role she truly deserves.

At any point in time, the first thing to consider is, what could you possibly do, where you are, with the tools you have?

from Getting Things Done by David Allen 📚

What humans require in our ascent is purpose and realism. Purpose, you could say, is like passion with boundaries. Realism is detachment and perspective.

Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday 📚

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.

📺 #Westworld Season 4 was fantastic! It still had the same problem as Season 3 in that some dumb coincidence had to happen to create more action scenes, but it returned strongly to the philosophical theme of free will and humanity. Let’s hope they get to make the series finale.

🎥Bullet Train = John Wick + Deadpool with Guy Ritchie’s storytelling style. So entertaining!! Surprisingly, this silly action film has a narrative theme! It reminded me a little of Everything Everywhere All At Once, but this is definitely for someone who just wants to laugh their ass off or be swooned by Brad Pitt.

How do you decide whether the content should be a post or a page? What’s the difference for readers (aside from not being able to comment)? What about indexing and backend functionality? 🤔

My new understanding of Zettlekasten

I never quite understood the point of Zettelkasten until I saw this video—Implementing a Digital Zettelkasten using Block References in Roam Research with Beau Haan. The purpose of Zettelkasten is to allow you to have a clear, informed, and personal conversation, not to organize or summarize what you’ve read. It’s all about developing your own set of wisdom that you can convey in a way that people will believe. Your fleeting thoughts (fleeting note) are like gas that you need to condense into a liquid (literature note), using the reference source as a container (reference note), so that you can solidify that knowledge (permanent note).

I have avoided using Drafts for any long form writing for years because the editing part was so horrendous. Only to realize that there is the arrange mode inside the app all along. 🤯

Arrange mode in Drafts

I’m still figuring out whether to use NotePlan or Logseq for my daily logs. NotePlan feels more intuitive, but I’m a bit scared of their pricing practice. While Logseq is free, the queries look like something I have to learn for weeks just to get a weekly summary. 😅

Remember and remind yourself of a phrase favored by Epictetus: “persist and resist.” Persist in your efforts. Resist giving in to distraction, discouragement, or disorder.

It’s so important to take on a Curator’s Perspective—that we are the judges, editors, and interpreters of the information we choose to let into our lives.
