If you’re into Girl’s Love stories, definitely give the Thai dramas “Gap” and “Blank” a watch. These two shows are set in the same universe, and the main characters are sisters. Their names—Neung, Song, and Sam—literally mean 1, 2, 3 in Thai. What a lazy way to name your kids. 😂
These dramas tackle controversial relationship topics like status, age, and gender with a refreshing twist. Despite what society might think, their relationships are surprisingly healthy—especially when compared to most heterosexual portrayals in media.
What I love is that they don’t overly sexualize the relationships, though their chemistry and kissing scenes are so hot you might need a fan. Instead, they give us a realistic portrayal of two people who just happen to genuinely love someone of the same sex. At the end of the day, we all face similar issues in relationships, no matter who we love. It’s all about two people fighting tooth and nail to make it work.
These dramas also highlight that the most important thing in any relationship is having an equal footing with your partner, not what society deems ‘suitable.’ What might seem like red flags can turn into green flags with open communication and trust.
Sure, the stories aren’t perfect—both dramas have their over-the-top moments—but they mark significant progress for the lesbian community, in my opinion. And guess what? The finale of “Blank The Series” airs tomorrow! Don’t miss it!
