Ballerina, 2025 - ★★★★

The movie Ballerina took me by surprise, far exceeding my expectations. I can confidently say that I enjoyed it more than John Wick 4. While John Wick 4 felt like watching a video game—an endless series of action sequences devoid of real stakes—Ballerina offered a compelling narrative infused with emotional depth and genuine struggle.
I truly appreciated witnessing the protagonist's journey full of battles and growth. Her transformation from an innocent child to a hardened, cold killer, and eventually into someone capable—though not fully embracing—of experiencing emotions beyond mere hatred and vengeance, was captivating. While I must admit that the storytelling in Ballerina isn't flawless, the origin story in the first act feels more like a necessity for world-building continuity than a well-crafted narrative. Nevertheless, the film's action sequences are top-notch—filled with creativity and executed with precision. The diverse and inventive fighting styles not only heighten the excitement but also add an unexpected layer of humor and absurdity. These varied approaches are undoubtedly the film's highlights.
I can't believe I was initially skeptical about Ana de Armas—I never considered her an action movie star. However, after watching Ballerina, I have no doubt she could excel in this genre if she chooses to pursue it. The musical score, another element that initially seemed underwhelming, shifted into high gear during the final act. It delivered a powerful and exhilarating atmosphere, with an incredible buildup that intensified until it culminated in an absolutely thrilling crescendo. I was completely hooked, internally shouting with excitement because the music was so impactful. It just slaps, and I loved every moment of it.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It features numerous memorable scenes that not only allowed me to connect with the characters but also made me feel the depth of their emotions. The film pulled me in with its intensity and creativity throughout. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best, it certainly stands out as one of the great action films. I highly recommend it to any action movie enthusiast.
