The Work My Lettering design for Thinking of Me by Olly Murs The Inspiration
This song, "Thinking of Me" by Olly Murs, seems like your typical pop tune at first listen. But, if you pay attention, there are some pretty profound lyrics in there about not dwelling on what's gone but cherishing the good times instead. It's a reminder that not every love story lasts forever. Some ended too late, some too soon.
I have been daily lettering ever since April 19, which marks the beginning of my journey into the lettering world. These are the daily sketches from April 19, the day I started lettering, to April 30. Each day presented its own challenges and triumphs, pushing me to think outside the box and experiment with different styles and concepts in lettering. From logo design to inspirational quotes, each piece has its own story to tell.
The Work The Inspiration
Angel with a Shotgun by The Cab holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorite songs. Its infectious energy and emotion have always resonated with me on a deep level. The contrast between holding a shotgun and spreading the angel wings added a dramatic effect in the very best way. It symbolized the fierce determination and protective instinct one might feel for a loved one.
The Work The Inspiration The inspiration for this lettering comes from Kameron Marlowe's song "Sober as a Drunk." I came across the song randomly a few years back, and was captivated by its expressive lyrics and analogies. The clever wordplay of "I'm as sober as drunk, I'm as high as rock bottom", capturing the essence of a person in denial so perfectly. The music is great too, flowing flawlessly and making it a fun song to sing.
The WorkMy Lettering Design for the song "Oh, What a Life" by American Authors The Inspiration "Oh, What a Life" by American Authors is hands down one of my favorite songs ever. In fact, the whole album, also named "Oh, What a Life", is my favorite of all time. It's the type of album where every track flows so nicely, that you never even think about skipping a song.
I have decided to challenge myself to do some lettering with my favorite lyrics throughout this May. It's going to be a bit tricky--picking the songs, figuring out the compositions, and actually doing the lettering. But hey, I'm looking forward to the challenge, as it will be an enriching experience for me.
It'll be a cool way to revisit memories associated with these tunes and breathe new life into them through my lettering.
Hey there, welcome to Lettering with Ning! I've been into typography and lettering since I was a kid. I even made my own crappy fonts when I was like 12!! Back then, typography design wasn't a big thing in Thailand, until, ฟอนต์.คอม (f0nt.com) was founded. Then, there was a surge of enthusiastic people. I was on the first wave of it all because I couldn't stand the boring typefaces on my computer!
Got a new logo for my blog, Ning Narrative Notebook. Decided to design it myself for the lettering practice. Spent almost 3 hours on it this morning. New Logo for Ning Narrative Notebook, using "NN" to resemble a corner of a page in a notebook.
The idea of using "NN" to resemble a corner of a page in a notebook struck me. So, I settled on just using "NN" for Ning Narrative and let the blog title do the talking.

⭐ One line for 2024-04-01: I spent the whole day doing lettering while feeling sick, and to end the day, I listened to Taylor Swift's new album "Tortured Poet Department."
I planned to make a wall art for my room using a line from Taylor Swift's song "Innocent." The lyric goes, "Today is never too late to be brand new," and I love it. I thought it would be nice to have that reminder every day, so that's the quote I went with.

I don't usually do quick sessions, but due to a condition that requires me to avoid sweating too much, I have to skip the gym for a full session for now.
However, I really wanted to work out today. So, here is my super quick session:
40 reps of Push-Ups 40 reps of Inverted Rows (or bent row with something heavy) 20 reps of Single Leg Deadlifts 20 reps of Pike Push-Ups 10 reps of Pistol Squats (or Bulgarian Split Squats for an easier variation) 20 reps of Superman Pull Ups Crab walk and camel pose for a bit

The issue with my fonts not loading properly on my main blog still persists, and I don't have the energy or effort to troubleshoot it.
While I aim to fill my website with personality, I opted to select excellent fallback fonts instead.
I just stumbled upon this fantastic resource for incorporating a system font stack organized by typeface classification into a CSS code. This approach allows me to at least control the typeface classifications, ensuring a relatively consistent style for all readers of the blog.

Just a quick heads-up—I've decided to switch up the domain for my media notes blog from notes.ningkantida.com to notebook.ningnarrative.com. Though, longer, I figured it's easier to remember and ties in with my blog name. I'm going with Notebook because it's all about me jotting down my thoughts on media, no frills. Not only that, but I prefer not to label myself as a reviewer. Plus, it rhymes well with my name!
Attention: If anyone subscribes to Ning's Notebook via RSS (if there are any 😂), please be aware that your RSS feed might break after this. I am changing the domain name. Also, please note that I have new plans for this blog. Therefore, I recommend reading this post before deciding whether you want to stay subscribed to this blog or my other blogs. With the introduction of Categories on Scribbles, I now see Scribbles as a perfect place to be my blogging home and use my main blog solely for interactions with others.
A Glimpse of War Captured by Journalists
The Civil War Movie offers a unique perspective on war through the lens of journalists, striving for objectivity and a focus on immediate reality rather than delving into the reasons behind it. However, the film acknowledges that, as humans, we all have biases, showcasing how the press distorts and selectively portrays events throughout.
I appreciated how the movie used different characters to illustrate various stages of a journalist's career—from the early days to their peak, burnout, and reluctance to retire.
With the introduction of Categories on Scribbles, I find myself faced with a dilemma regarding my existing blogs.
Currently, I have three main blogs (although I have more, their purposes are clear):
Musings with Ning: where I share refined thoughts about life that have been on my mind. Ning’s Notebook: for notes on various topics in my life. Life of Ning: life updates not broadcast on RSS feeds.
